Sunak: UK should `max out´ 開発s in North Sea oil and gas

Rishi Sunak has 主張するd he wants to “max out” 開発s in the North Sea ? as he (人命などを)奪う,主張するd 労働’s 拒絶 to support new oil and gas fields would be “bad for the British economy”.

The 総理大臣 spoke out as he travelled to Scotland to 発表する 政府 support for 未来 oil and gas licensing 一連の会議、交渉/完成するs.

And while he 辞退するd to say if the 議論の的になる Rosebank field to the west of Shetland?? the 開発 of which is ひどく …に反対するd by 環境の 選挙運動者s 含むing Greta Thunberg ? would get the green light, his 発言/述べるs hinted that it could.

Asked about the Rosebank field during a visit to Aberdeenshire on Monday, Mr Sunak 強調する/ストレスd that “individual licensing 決定/判定勝ち(する)s are made through a regulatory 過程”.

My 見解(をとる) is we should max out the 適切な時期s that we have in the North Sea

But he 追加するd: “My 見解(をとる) is we should max out the 適切な時期s that we have in the North Sea because that’s good for our energy 安全, it’s good for 職業s ? 特に here in Scotland ? but it’s also good for the 気候, because the 代案/選択肢 is shipping energy here from halfway around the world with three or four times the 炭素 放出/発行s.

“So, any which way you look at it, the 権利 thing to do is to 投資する and to 支援する our North Sea and that’s what we’re doing.”

With 労働 having said it would not give new fields the go ahead if Sir Keir Starmer 勝利,勝つs the next 総選挙, Mr Sunak 主張するd his 競争相手’s 政策 was “bad for our energy 安全”.

Continuing his 批評 of 労働 , the Tory 主張するd the 拒絶 to support new 開発s in the North Sea was “bad for the British economy and, in particular, Scottish 職業s” and was also “bad for the 環境 同様に”.

労働’s 政策 would make the UK “more reliant on energy that comes from abroad” the 総理大臣 said.

Mr Sunak said: “It’s bad for the economy and 職業s ? 200,000 職業s are supported by this 産業, many of those here in Scotland ? they would be putting people out of work.

“And, thirdly, it’s bad for the 環境 because if you look at the 研究 that’s been published today ? LNG (液化するd natural gas) for example, that comes here from somewhere else, typically has 炭素 放出/発行s that are three, if not four times, higher than the energy that we can get from here at home.

“So, any which way you look at it, I don’t think that’s the 権利 政策. What we’re doing is 権利 for the country.”

Regulators at the North Sea 移行 当局 (NSTA) are 現在/一般に running the 33rd 一連の会議、交渉/完成する of 沖合いの/海外の oil and gas licensing, with more than 100 licences in total?推定する/予想するd to be awarded from this autumn onward.

Mr Sunak 主張するd this was “一貫した with our ambitions” for the UK to 達成する 逮捕する-無 放出/発行s by 2050, 追加するing that oil and gas would still be needed to 供給(する) about a 4半期/4分の1 of the UK’s energy needs by then.

“Given that, the question you have to ask yourself is where would you like to get that energy from, and it seems to me unequivocally the 権利 thing is to get that energy from here at home,” he said.

Friends of the Earth said the 優先 of the 総理大臣 should be to 絶縁する homes.

Jamie Peters, 気候 co-ordinator at the group, said: “Locking the UK into 10年間s more oil and gas extraction is 無謀な 政策 that will 運動 a coach and horses through the 総理大臣’s international 評判 on 気候 change while doing nothing to 改善する energy 安全 or bring 負かす/撃墜する 法案s.

“延期するing vita l, and 最終的に 必然的な, 気候 活動/戦闘 will cost us all in the long run ? both financially and ーに関して/ーの点でs of the 抱擁する human 衝撃 as 気候 決裂/故障 強めるs.

“The 政府’s own 気候 助言者s, along with the International Energy 機関, the UN and the world’s 最高の,を越す 気候 scientists, have said that we cannot afford to bring new 化石 燃料 事業/計画(する)s online if we’re to 安全な・保証する a 安全な and liveable 未来.

“That’s why a 運動 to 絶縁する homes, と一緒に building a world-class 産業 in homegrown renewable 力/強力にする, should be at the heart of Rishi Sunak’s energy 計画(する) if he genuinely wants our economy ? and the 惑星 ? to 栄える.

“Both of these are cheap to 配達する, popular with the public and will 現実に make a difference to the nation’s sky-high 法案s.”

End 燃料 Poverty 連合 警告するd the new licences will “only 供給する a year’s 価値(がある) of gas for 国内の use”.

調整者/コーディネーター Simon Francis said: “The 政府 needs to stop giving people 誤った hope.

“What we 緊急に need are 本物の 解答s to the energy 危機.

“We need to 減ずる our dependence on unaffordable gas, by 取り組むing energy waste through insulation and 転換ing to renewables.”
