F1 TO HONOUR RUSSIAN GP DEAL
Not for the first time in the sport's history, 決まり文句/製法 One appears to find itself caught between a political 激しく揺する and a moral hard place.
The deaths of 298 people に引き続いて the 狙撃 負かす/撃墜する of flight MH17 over ウクライナ共和国 by プロの/賛成の-ロシアの 交戦的なs has placed F1's visit to Sochi in 早期に October 堅固に in the スポットライト.
There have already been calls from 政治家,政治屋s for F1 to ボイコット(する) the event, to send 大統領 Vladimir Putin a message that such morally reprehensible 活動/戦闘s have their consequences.
Putin has been the 運動ing 軍隊 behind attracting F1 to his country, with the race to be 行う/開催する/段階d at a 目的-built 回路・連盟 at the heart of the Olympic village that 行う/開催する/段階d the winter Games earlier this year.
Having 法廷,裁判所d the friendship of F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, Putin is now eager to その上の showcase a developing Russia to the world by way of hosting a sport that has a 全世界の reach of 350 million people.
The world, however, is 現在/一般に 乱暴/暴力を加えるd at what 広げるd recently with the shocking loss of life on the Malaysia 航空機によるs jet.
F1, however, has made (疑いを)晴らす in the past it will not 許す politics to dictate as to whether a race should take place or not.
The sport's 姿勢 on Bahrain in 2012, when the world cried out for F1 to ボイコット(する) the 湾 kingdom given the 宗教的な 不安 and the pitched 戦う/戦いs between police and 行動主義者s 存在 行う/開催する/段階d on a daily basis, was 会社/堅い and unwavering.
Ecclestone has this week made (疑いを)晴らす his position again, that the sport does not get 伴う/関わるd in politics, and he and Putin will "100 per cent" honour the 契約 they 共同で 調印するd, and un derstood to be 価値(がある) £120million to F1 over the course of its seven-year duration.
Whether any 圧力 will be brought to 耐える from sponsors is another 事柄, 顕著に the likes of 明言する/公表する-owned Malaysian oil 巨大(な) Petronas who support Mercedes.
Petronas opened a £1.8million 基金 on Tuesday in 援助(する) of the families who lost loved ones on the flight, and it is fair to assume they will feel uncomfortable with their 指名する racing on ロシアの 国/地域.
For now, Ecclestone and F1 will 持つ/拘留する 会社/堅い, believing with the 就任の GP still 11 weeks away, time will likely 緩和する any 恐れるs.
Moreover, Ecclestone would certainly not want to get on the wrong 味方する of Putin by pulling an event the ロシアの 首相 has waited so long to host.
************
It is a crazy, seemingly implausible シナリオ, but it を強調するs the utter stupidity of the 議論の的になる 二塁打-points 支配する for the final grand prix of this season.
With nine races of the (選挙などの)運動をする remaining, 吊りくさび Hamilton 現在/一般に 追跡するs Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg by just 14 points, a slender 利ざや.
Now imagine this.
Hamilton could 勝利,勝つ the next eight grands prix, and with Rosberg a 走者-up on each occasion, yet still lose the 選手権 on the final day in Abu Dhabi on November 23.
Were Rosberg to 勝利,勝つ that event at the Yas Marina 回路・連盟, and with Hamilton at worst retiring and at best no higher than ninth, the latter would 行方不明になる out にもかかわらず a total of 13 race victories to the German's five.
As I say, crazy, implausible, but as Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff 発言/述べるd at the start of the week, also "u nfair".
Wolff has never been a fan of the system, 発表するd last December to 普及した 激しい非難 by F1 fans around the world. It is hard to 解任する such a vehement (激しい)反発.
But for the first time, に引き続いて Rosberg's 勝利,勝つ in Germany on Sunday, Wolff really put the boot in, その上の 追加するing that "I don't think we should have done it".
You can understand his angst, the 恐れる one of his two drivers could lose motorsport's most-価値のある prize by such a ridiculous 判決,裁定.
It was Bernie Ecclestone's idea as a way to 上げる flagging television audiences that have 拒絶する/低下するd of late, to 追加する a degree of excitement to the denouement to the season.
With the way the season is going, with the ebb and flow between Rosberg and Hamilton, Ecclestone's much-derided 計画(する) might just 耐える fruit.
Whether it is political footballs or dodgy 二塁打-points 計画/陰謀s, it all remains water off a duck's 支援する to Ecclestone.
