SHARMAN EYES GOLDEN HURDLES BARRIER
Will Sharman has his sights 始める,決める on becoming only the second Briton after Colin Jackson to break the 13-second 障壁 for the 110 metres 障害物s.
The 29-year-old goes into the 連邦/共和国 Games in the best form of a career which has 含むd three 連続する World 選手権 final 外見s but only 産する/生じるd one major メダル, 連邦/共和国 silver in Delhi four years ago.
Jamaica's Hansle Parchment, the world number one, is the (疑いを)晴らす favourite for the gold at Hampden Park, but Sharman (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 him at that very stadium 13 days ago and is out to spring another upset.
The Derbyshire (短距離で)速く走る人 has twice run personal bests of 13.21 seconds this summer to 階級 third in the British かつてない 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) behind Colin Jackson and Tony Jarrett and is 確信して there is plenty more to come.
"The magical number is 13.00 and if you can go under that then that's epic," Sharman, who clocked 13.24secs in his final race before the Games at Horse Guards Parade last Sunday, told 圧力(をかける) 協会 Sport.
"If I put all of the best parts of my race together, from the different races I've done, the biomechanist told me I'd run a ridiculously 急速な/放蕩な time. It's a question of putting everything together."
Sharman finished behind team-mate Andy Turner in Delhi in 2010 and watched him take World 選手権 bronze the に引き続いて year, while Lawrence Clarke, the third member of England's 110m 障害物s trio in Glasgow, was fourth at London 2012. Sharman did not even make the team for the Olympics.
But he has no 疑問s どれでも he is now 広大な/多数の/重要な Britain's number one.
"Even in the previ ous years I would have said I was still that person and the only 推論する/理由 it might not have seemed like that is because maybe I was carrying an 傷害 and I shouldn't have been competing at the time," he said.
"The 推論する/理由 why I have made it objectively (疑いを)晴らす, without trying to sound big-長,率いるd, is I have run quicker than all of those guys now. I've run quicker than anybody else in Britain since the 80s and 90s, that 時代 of Colin and Jarrett."
After bursting on to the scene at the 2009 World 選手権s in Berlin when, having come fourth at the British 裁判,公判s, he finished just one place outside the メダルs on the 全世界の 行う/開催する/段階 one month later, Sharman's career 立ち往生させるd.
He puts his その後の rejuvenation 負かす/撃墜する to returning to work with coach Jerzy Maciukiewicz in Loughborough in 2012 - the man who took him from 103rd in the world to fourth in 2009 and whom he left the に引き続いて year.
Sharman's 決定/判定勝ち(する) to leave Maciukiewicz to join Malcolm Arnold's training group in Bath made sense on paper. Arnold, the famed 障害物s coach, guided Jackson to two world 肩書を与えるs and Sharman got thinking: 'How good could he make me?'
Sharman, though, is a bit different. A classically trained ピアニスト and former timekeeper on the TV show Gladiators, he 認める he was not fully committed to the Bath move, 特に with his young family 支援する in Derbyshire.
A return to Maciukiewicz two years ago has 生き返らせるd his career.
"When I (機の)カム 支援する to Jerzy, halfway through 2012, we 速く started 改善するing again and 2013 saw me in the World 選手権 final," Sharman said.
"Based on the years I had in 2011 and 2012, you wouldn't have said that would have been possible ever again. He brought me 支援する to where I was and now I've より勝るd it.
"He was annoyed when I left because I saw that he had this three-year 計画(する) for me 主要な into 2012 and it was all 的d に向かって a gold メダル (at the Olympics). I was like, 'Oh, crikey, sorry about that'."
Sharman's 現在の form, though, is better than any 陳謝.
