Officer 'feels sorry for Mitchell'

Ian Richardson, who recently retired after 30 years in the 主要都市の Police, said it was a "nonsense 出来事/事件" and criticised Scotland Yard's 扱うing of the 列／漕ぐ／騒動.

Mr Mitchell, who now 直面するs a hefty 合法的な 法案, said he was "激しく disappointed" with the 判決，裁定.
Mr Richardson, who heard part of the 交流 and gave 証拠 in the High 法廷，裁判所 事例／患者, told BBC 無線で通信する 4's Today programme the Met should have drawn a line under the 出来事/事件, which had been 漏れるd to the 圧力（をかける）.
"I said in my 証拠 in 長，指導者 last week that it was a nonsense 出来事/事件 that shouldn't have cost Mr Mitchell his 職業, certainly shouldn't have cost the officers who were whistleblowers or - whatever your opinion of them is, whether they were leakers or whistleblowers - it shouldn't have cost them their 職業s.
"But here we are, with that.
"Mr Mitchell lost his sense of humour. Who hasn't lost their sense of humour at work?"
Asked if he felt sorry for Mr Mitchell, Mr Richardson said "I very muc h do", but also 表明するd sympathy for the police officers who lost their 職業s as a result of the 調査s into how 詳細（に述べる）s of the 出来事/事件 were 漏れるd.
"It was all 全く unnecessary," he said. "I do feel sorry for Mr Mitchell, yes."
Mr Richardson said he had written to his superior officer setting out what had happened in the hope that the Met could have put the 事柄 "into some 肉親，親類d of reasonable 視野 to draw a line under it there".
But he said: "They were very 利益／興味d in the 漏れる and to find out where the 漏れる was, but I was told that who said what to whom at the gate was of no 利益／興味 to the organisation. The Commissioner had decided that a line would be drawn under it there."
Mr Richardson said: " It could have been said that it is a minor 出来事/事件 that has be 漏れるd to the newspapers and let's all move on.
"But of course we didn't move on and we ended up all at the High 法廷，裁判所 last week and this week.
"It's a 広大な／多数の／重要な shame and at what cost to so many people."
Mr Richardson said the Police 連合 needs "serious 改革（する）", 追加するing: "I think they need to more 明確に 代表する their members. This was not a hook to hang their grievances on."
He also criticised Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe's 扱うing of the 事件／事情／状勢: "I was a lowly Pc. I think he could have done more at the time, but who am I to say that."
Former Tory MP Michael Brown said Mr Mitchell would not have got into trouble if he had been using a 大臣の ca r rather than a bicycle.
Mr Brown, a friend of the former 大臣, said "there's room for Andrew Mitchell to 再構築する his life" and he should now concentrate on 保持するing his seat at the 総選挙.
He told Today: "I think that Andrew has 簡単に got to make sure that in 23 weeks today, May 8, he has received the judgment not of the High 法廷，裁判所 but of the 投票者s of Sutton Coldfield.
"I'm 確信して, having been to speak for him several years ago, that he is held in very high regard there."
