Ornate ostrich eggs shed light on an interconnected 古代の world - 熟考する/考慮する

高度に-prized ornate ostrich eggs 設立する in Europe, the Middle East and north Africa 示唆する the 古代の world was more connected than 以前 thought, によれば 研究.

The findings, published in the 定期刊行物 Antiquity, are based on 明言する/公表する-of-the-art scanning 科学(工学)技術 that 許すd 研究員s to pinpoint the コンビナート/複合体 origin and history of the 高級な items by 診察するing their 化学製品 make-up.

While decorated ostrich eggs were 高度に sought after by the エリートs of Mediterranean civilisations during the bronze (2,500 BC to 1,200 BC) and アイロンをかける ages (1,200 BC to 600 BC), little has been known about the 古代の 貿易(する) and 生産/産物 of these 高級な goods.

An international team of 専門家s, led by the University of Bristol, looked at five ostrich eggs from the British Museum’s collection that were 設立する in the Isis Tomb, an エリート burial at Etruscan Vulci in Italy that are more than 2,000 years old.

They also 診察するd egg fragments 設立する across 11 場所/位置s in Europe, the Middle East and north Africa.

Using 電子 microscopy scanning, the 研究員s were able to distinguish eggs laid in different climatic zones.

The team were able 伸び(る) a more 包括的な understanding of how 古代の ostrich eggs during that time were sourced.

They were also able to 決定する the techniques that were used by the artisans such as polishing, smooth 捨てるing, 選ぶing and shaving to decorate the 爆撃するs with motifs of animals, flora, geometric patterns, 兵士s and chariots.

Dr Tamar Hodos, a reader in Mediterranean archaeology at University of Bristol’s School of Arts, said: “The entire system of decorated ostrich egg 生産/産物 was much more 複雑にするd than we had imagined.

“We also 設立する 証拠 to 示唆する the 古代の world was much more interconnected than 以前 thought.

“Mediterranean ostriches were indigenous to the eastern Mediterranean and north Africa.”

She continued: “What was most sur prising to us was that eggs from both zones were 設立する at 場所/位置s in the other zone, suggestive of more 広範囲にわたる 貿易(する) 大勝するs.”

The 研究員s believe eggs were taken from wild birds’ nests ? at かなりの 危険 ? にもかかわらず 証拠 of ostriches 存在 kept in 捕らわれた during this period.

Dr Hodos 追加するd: “We also 設立する eggs 要求する time to 乾燥した,日照りの before the 爆撃する can be carved and therefore 要求する 安全な 貯蔵.

“This has 経済的な 関わりあい/含蓄s, since 貯蔵 necessitates a long-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 投資 and this, 連合させるd with the 危険 伴う/関わるd, would 追加する to an egg’s 高級な value.”

The 熟考する/考慮する is part of an 現在進行中の 研究 事業/計画(する) into 古代の 高級な goods called Globalising 高級なs.
