Mets 主張する there's no 解雇する/砲火/射撃 sale, but is Justin Verlander next to go?

The New York Mets appear to be in 十分な 退却/保養地 方式 after 貿易(する)ing away 退役軍人 投手s Max Scherzer and David Robertson in 最近の days but general 経営者/支配人 Billy Eppler wants to quickly bury that narrative.

Eppler says the Mets are just 再建するing the roster and not 涙/ほころびing 負かす/撃墜する an underachieving team that was supposed to compete for a World Series 寝台/地位 this season.

"I do want to be (疑いを)晴らす that it's not a 再構築する. It's not a 解雇する/砲火/射撃 sale," Eppler told reporters Sunday. "It's not a liquidation."

The 貿易(する)ing 最終期限 is Tuesday and 観察者/傍聴者s will be watching the Mets' 活動/戦闘s more than listening to Eppler's words.

New York still has 退役軍人 投手 Justin Verlander to dangle to teams chasing a postseason 寝台/地位. Verlander, like Scherzer, is a three-time Cy Young Award 勝利者.

Verlander, 40, 選ぶd up his 250th career victory on Sunday against the Washington 国家のs and 示すd afterward that he's open to a 貿易(する) if the Mets aren't committed to winning in 2024.

"I think it 大部分は depends on how the organization 見解(をとる)s next year," Verlander said. "I think Max is a 堅い 調印する for trying to go 支援する at it. So, I'm committed to trying to 勝利,勝つ a 選手権 here, but if the organization decides that that's not 正確に/まさに the direction that they think is a best fit for next year and go for it again next year then yeah, I would be more open to it."

The 38-year-old Robertson, the team's closer, was 貿易(する)d to the Miami マカジキs on Thursday for two minor leagues. But the big bombshell (機の)カム Saturday with the 貿易(する) of the 39-year-old Scherzer to the Texas 特別奇襲隊員s for minor league infielder Luisangel Acuna. The 貿易(する) was 公式に 発表するd Sunday.

Verlander was stunned to see Scher zer on the move.

"A bit surprised with that one," Verlander said. "Max was 明白に an integral part of our team for next season. So, when you see that happen, you can't help but think about what's in 蓄える/店 for next year. We play this game to 勝利,勝つ. We want to 勝利,勝つ a 選手権 and we want to have the 適切な時期 to do so. It changed my opinion a little bit, so 堅い to see it happen."

Eppler said the Mets will consider 取引,協定ing Verlander if the 状況/情勢 is 権利.

"We're going to listen, but our price points are high," Eppler said. "We have valuations on our 存在するing 職員/兵員 and the 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業 is high to 会合,会う it but we are willing in 確かな circumstances to use (owner Steve Cohen's) 投資 and 肉親,親類d of repurpose that 投資 to serve the larger goal, which is to build a 選手権 organization."

The Mets point to the 取得/買収 of Acuna -- the 高度に regarded younger brother of Atlanta 勇敢に立ち向かうs 星/主役にする Ronald Acuna Jr. -- as a 推論する/理由 why the Scherzer 貿易(する) was in the best 利益/興味s of the franchise.

"We used this 適切な時期 to bring a player into the organization that we're 極端に excited about that's の近くに to the big leagues -- talent that you can't 接近," Eppler said. "一般に, with clubs that are going to go through a 再構築する, you have to 耐える five, six, seven years of losing.

"We don't have the appetite for that. We're not going to do that. What we want to do is use Steve's 投資 and 高める this farm system, and get us to our larger goal."

Eppler explained the 状況/情勢 to two team stalwarts -- shortstop Francisco Lindor (second season of a $10-year, $341 million 取引,協定) and 中心 fielder Brandon Nimmo (first season of eight-year, $162 million) -- to let them know the team isn't taking any steps backward.

"I don't call it a re build," Lindor said, "I call it a 移行. I'm here for the long 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語. I'm here to 勝利,勝つ 選手権s and to be part of an amazing organization. It's one of those things where you want to 勝利,勝つ now, but you also need to have 安定. From my understanding, that's what I'm seeing 権利 now."

Sunday's victory leaves the Mets with a 高度に disappointing 50-55 記録,記録的な/記録する, 特に considering their major league 記録,記録的な/記録する $355 million payroll. New York is 6 1/2 games behind the final two 国家の League wild-card teams and would have to pass five teams to (人命などを)奪う,主張する a 寝台/地位.

That's a much different 状況/情勢 than the 事業/計画(する)d 戦う/戦い with the Atlanta 勇敢に立ち向かうs for NL East 最高位. The fourth-place Mets are a whopping 18 games behind the 勇敢に立ち向かうs with a third of the season to go.
