End of brilliant white-ball 時代 for England, says Hussain

Oct 27 (Reuters) - England's dismal showing at the World Cup has been met with shock 支援する home and 示すs the end of a brilliant 時代, によれば former captain Nasser Hussain.

A 鎮圧するing 敗北・負かす by Sri Lanka on Thursday left the defending 支持する/優勝者s ninth out of 10 in the standings and with almost no chance of reaching the 半分-決勝戦.

England have lost four of their five matches, 含むing one against Afghanistan, and 直面する in-form India on Sunday.

It is a far cry from 2019 when Eoin Morgan's England won the World Cup in an unforgettable final against New Zealand and the 地位,任命する-mortem has begun in earnest.

"We are talking about some of the greatest players in our white-ball history but this has just turned out to be a 橋(渡しをする) too far for some of them," Hussain told Sky Sports.

"I wouldn't have changed the 味方する before this tournament but I would definitely be thinking about changing it now because it does feel like the end of an 時代.

"That doesn't take anything away from what this England 味方する have 達成するd. We can be all doom and gloom and say 'get rid of the lot of them' but they have given us six or seven years of 絶対 brilliant white-ball cricket."

Questions are 存在 asked about England's 準備 for the tournament and whether the 欠如(する) of 50-over cricket played by the team's 重要な players 土台を崩すd their chances of 保持するing their 肩書を与える.

Ben Stokes has not played a 50-over match in England since 2014 while captain Jos Buttler, whose position is coming under scrutiny, has not since 2016.

Hussain, however, says 非難するing the 量 of T20 cricket now 存在 played rather than the 50-over 判型 is a 警官,(賞などを)獲得する-out.

"We say how 広大な/多数の/重要な they are when they 勝利,勝つ two World Cups but when the wheels come off some 非難する the structure of English cricket," he said.

"I've heard people at home are doing that but this is not the fault of the Hundred or the 爆破 or the fact England's best players do not play much 50-over cricket. They are lame excuses."
