Feb 13 (Reuters) - While 分析家s 審議 the 会計の sense of Sky TV 支払う/賃金ing more than $4 billion to broadcast live English 首相 League matches, former CBS Sports 大統領,/社長 Neal Pilson advises them not to fret.

The retired (n)役員/(a)執行力のある speaks from personal experience when he 予報するs a happy 結果 にもかかわらず the 量 spent.

"In the final 分析 SKY and BT are probably going to be of greater value...because they have 保持するd these 権利s," Pilson told Reuters in a telephone interview.

"I experienced that at CBS when we lost the NFL 権利s."

Pilson ruefully 解任するd losing the 国家の Football League 権利s in 1993 to fledgling Fox Broadcasting Company, whose parent, Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox, happens to own 39 パーセント of Sky.

CBS, who had テレビ放送するd NFL games for 38 years, were 申し込む/申し出ing the NFL $250 million a year to 新たにする their 取引,協定 and 網状組織 管理/経営 妨げるd at NFL's 需要・要求する for $290 million.

Fox, which at that time did not even have a sports 分割, stepped in and 申し込む/申し出d $390 million a year and were awarded the four-year 一括 of games.

"If I had won that argument I'd probably still be at CBS," said Pilson, now 長,率いる of a sports 協議するing company whose (弁護士の)依頼人s have 含むd the International Olympic 委員会, NASCAR and the Kentucky Derby.

"I lost that argument and I retired. (v)提携させる(n)支部,加入者s left us, the male audience left us, our ratings during the week went 負かす/撃墜する. The company was in a lot worse 形態/調整 having lost the NFL."

CBS 修正するd the mistake in the next TV go-一連の会議、交渉/完成する.

"Four years later CBS went 支援する to the NFL and said 'we'd 支払う/賃金 any price to get one of the 一括s'," said Pilson.

CBS paid more than $4 billion over eight years to ひったくる away a 予定する of games that had been broadcast by NBC, and Fox 新たにするd for eight years and $4.4 billion.

率s have continued to climb, more nights of games have been 追加するd to bring in more broadcast partners and the NFL now rakes in some $6 billion a year in 国内の TV 権利s.

DEVELOPING MARKET

The 上向き 傾向 is also seen in the developing market for サッカー in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs.

The Major League サッカー season starting in March is the first of eight years under a new U.S. television 取引,協定 that saw 権利s 料金s 3倍になる from the previous 協定.

The new 一括, 報告(する)/憶測d as $90 million a year, is 株d by Fox Sports, ESPN and the Spanish language Univision 網状組織.

Orlando City's Brazilian chairman and 大多数 owner Flavio Augusto da Silva is 確信して of continued growth.

"The next 取引,協定 will be done and it will be even bigger. That is when I think you will start to see big changes in MLS," he said.

However, while the 傾向 is 肯定的な, $90 million year is peanuts compared with the 首相 League's 国内の 取引,協定 and miles behind other major sports in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs.

The smallest of the 'big four' U.S. leagues, the 国家の ホッケー League, gets an 普通の/平均(する) of $200 million a year for U.S. TV 権利s.

The 首相 League does better on U.S. television than MLS, 普通の/平均(する)ing around three times more in ratings, but big 昇進/宣伝 is 推定する/予想するd from ESPN and Fox Sports from this year on.

The arrival of more 最高の,を越す players (Kaka, David 郊外住宅, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard) and new teams in big TV markets -- NYCFC, Orlando this year, a new LA and Atlanta team in 2017, and David Beckham's Miami team on the horizon -- could 刺激(する) MLS growth as a 国内の TV 製品.

As for the 抱擁する 支出s to 得る,とらえる TV audiences, Pilson said there was a hidden value in major sports broadcasting with 網状組織s using the 権利s to sell other services.

"Keep in mind that these large companies that buy sports 権利s don't やむを得ず have to make a 利益(をあげる) on the actual 取引,協定 itself," he said.

"They're selling broadband and other programming that they 促進する with their football. They use it to その上の their entire 商売/仕事." (付加 報告(する)/憶測ing by Simon Evans; 報告(する)/憶測ing by Larry 罰金 in New York; Editing by Alan Baldwin)
