"The 嵐/襲撃する 製造者s" puts Cambodia's sex-trafficking under スポットライト

LONDON, Aug 31 (Thomson Reuters 創立/基礎) - Cambodians say that when human traffickers arrive in a village, they bring a 嵐/襲撃する and 涙/ほころびs with them, an experience that Aya, sold into slavery when she was 16, will never forget.

Her story is at the centre of the "The 嵐/襲撃する 製造者s", a 文書の by French-Cambodian filmmaker Guillaume Suon, who spent three years filming human trafficking 犠牲者s and traffickers in the 貧窮化した Southeast Asian nation.

A 冷気/寒がらせるing expose of Cambodia's human trafficking 暗黒街, the film 描写するs the lives of women like Aya who have returned from a life of slavery abroad, and those 準備するing to leave the country in the hope of 収入 enough money to support their families at home.

It also portrays a trafficker who (人命などを)奪う,主張するs he has sold more than 500 Cambodian girls, some as young as 14, without ever 存在 逮捕(する)d by police.

"Aya's story is a strong example that shows all the 推論する/理由s why Cambodians become 犠牲者s of human trafficking," Suon, 32, told the Thomson Reuters 創立/基礎.

Almost 20 パーセント of Cambodians live below the poverty line and the country 欠如(する)s a social 福利事業 網状組織 to support poor families, its 会・原則s still struggling to 回復する from the 荒廃 原因(となる)d by 独裁者 政治家 マリファナ's genoc idal 政権 in the late 1970s.

Aya, now in her 早期に 20s, recently (機の)カム 支援する to Battambang 州 in northwestern Cambodia after she was trafficked to Malaysia to work as a maid.

無能にするd and unable to support their family, Aya's parents had been approached by a recruiter 約束ing Aya would be able to work in Malaysia in a 安全な・保証する 職業 and send home money.

Her boss was abusive, so she escaped, only to be 強姦d the night she ran away. She became 妊娠している as a result of the 強姦.

"いつかs, I'd like her to sell him," her mother says in the film about the baby, a tiny boy seen 激しく揺するing in a hammock, whom she resents as just another mouth to 料金d.

"I should have died over there," Aya says. Her own 関係 with her son is also fraught as a result of the 暴力/激しさ she experienced. She says she 攻撃する,衝突するs the baby when she thinks of his father and what he did to her.

TRAPPED IN POVERTY

Cambodia is a "source, 輸送, and 目的地 country for men, women, and children 支配するd to 軍隊d 労働 and sex trafficking," the U.S. 明言する/公表する Department's 2015 "Trafficking in Persons 報告(する)/憶測" 公式文書,認めるd.

"I 的 the poorest ones," trafficker Pou Houy says in the film. "These people are 平易な to 誘惑する and to 新採用する. Most can't read, they have nothing to lose. Even the factories don't want them, nobody wants them but me."

He has never been 逮捕(する)d by the police and enjoy s a life of 高級な 予定 to his trafficking activities, an 産業 概算の to be 価値(がある) $150 billion globally.

Aya, 一方/合間, now earns a meagre living by washing dishes, cooking for her 隣人s and 運ぶ/漁獲高ing bricks for $1 a day on a construction 場所/位置 in the 資本/首都 Phnom Penh.

Suon spent much of his time in Cambodia in the countryside, where most of the trafficking 犠牲者s come from, to 伸び(る) the 信用 of 地元のs.

"Nearly everyone knows someone who has gone to work abroad," said Suon. "It was 平易な to find the trafficking 犠牲者s and the traffickers, who operate 自由に and with impunity."
