U.S. Open pauses to remember 9/11 under 激しい 安全

NEW YORK, Sept 11 (Reuters) - The U. S. Open reached an emotional 最高潮 on Sunday as the year's final (野球の)満塁ホームラン,(テニスなどの)グランドスラム paused まっただ中に 激しい 安全 before the start of the men's (テニスなどの)シングルス to remember those who died in the 9/11 attacks 15 years ago.

The U.S. Open's 紅潮/摘発するing Meadows home is just 10 miles to the northeast of the 場所/位置 of the former Twin Towers of the World 貿易(する) 中心, the 2001 attacks left a 示す on the sprawling 施設 and many players.

At the Open in 2001, a 20-year old Australian Lleyton Hewitt 敗北・負かすd American Pete Sampras to 勝利,勝つ the men's final two days before the attack.

Several of the players in that year's tournament left New York on flights in the days and even hours before the Twin Towers (機の)カム 負かす/撃墜する.
