LOS ANGELES, Feb 20 (Reuters) - From "Singin' in the Rain" to "The Wizard of Oz," musicals 港/避難所't 伝統的に seen much love from the Oscars. But "La La Land" has changed all that, (電話線からの)盗聴 into a 願望(する) for escapism and sending Hollywood 緊急発進するing to dust off its dancing shoes.

With a 主要な 14 学院 Award 指名/任命s 含むing best picture, director, actor, actress and screenplay, Damien Chazelle's love letter to Los Angeles is favorite to waltz away with an armful of Oscars on Sunday and 生き返らせる musicals as a 軍隊 to be reckoned with.

"The country is so sad 権利 now and 'La La Land' is the only escapist movie," said Craig Zadan, co-生産者 with Neil Meron of "Chicago," the last musical to 勝利,勝つ a best picture Oscar in 2002.

"The others are artistically wonderful, but they are not やむを得ず peppy and 上げる you into a flight of fancy. The cards are all 提携させるd for this to be the year of the musical again."

It's been a long time coming.

Musicals have long been snubbed in the 最高の,を越す 部類s by the 学院 of 動議 Picture Arts and Sciences.

"That's probably because musicals just aren't as 冷静な/正味の as they used to be and 学院 members care a lot about what's 冷静な/正味の," said Tom O'Neil, 創立者 of awards website Goldderby.com.

"The miraculous thing about 'La La Land' is that it's anti-冷静な/正味の -- shamelessly and joyously old-fashioned. It's 成し遂げるing so 井戸/弁護士席 with Oscar 投票者s because of its impressive craftsmanship," he 追加するd.

Only 10 musicals have won the coveted best picture Oscar in the 89-year history of the 学院 Awards.

The 勝利者s 含む "Chicago," "The Sound of Music," and "West 味方する Story," but the losers 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) is longer. Along with "The Wizard of Oz" and "Singin' in the Rain," it also 含むs 審査する icons like 遺伝子 Kelly, Fred Astaire and Judy Garland, 非,不,無 of whom ever won a major Oscar.

It took director Chazelle, 32, six years to get "La La Land" off the ground, fusi ng a 1950s musical sensibility with a 同時代の love story.

"I like to think that it's 供給するing an emotional experience. That was the goal of the movie -- to use the tropes of musical traditions to say something about what it means to be young and in love today, and what it means to be an artist and chase a dream," Chazelle said.

Some awards 選挙立会人s think "La La Land" could 勝利,勝つ up to 11 Oscars on Sunday, a feat that would tie it with all time 記録,記録的な/記録する 支えるもの/所有者s "Ben-Hur," "Titanic" and "Lord of the (犯罪の)一味s: The Return of the King."

Its success is already changing perceptions about the genre at Hollywood movie studios, which have been slow to catch up with the 傾向 どこかよそで.

Shows like "Glee," and live 見解/翻訳/版s of musicals like "Grease" and "Hairspray" have brought in big TV audiences while Broadway 攻撃する,衝突する "Hamilton," with its 非難する 新たな展開 on history and politics, has given musicals new respectability.

Movie musicals have often been associated with large 予算s, big casts and long rehearsals for singers, musicians and ダンサーs. "La La Land" however cost a modest $30 million to make and has taken $300 million 全世界の box office.

"Musical used to be a dirty word when you are going to these studio 会合s. But the word has taken on a better patina lately. It seems people don't look at you and throw you out of the office if you say you want to do a musical these days," said Meron.

"I would say there is a buzz going 一連の会議、交渉/完成する the studios 権利 now that everyone is looking for the next musical," 追加するd Zadan. (報告(する)/憶測ing by Jill Serjeant; Editing by Sandra Maler)
