TV Review: 'BH90210'

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - If you're watching Fox's "BH90210" to see if Donna and David got hitched or more pressingly Dylan's 運命／宿命, you'll have to save such fantasies for fan fiction.
That's because this "Beverly Hills, 90210" 復活, which 首相s tonight, is more of a soapy parody, giving the actors behind our favorite characters the space to play 見解／翻訳／版s of themselves while poking fun at the public personas, rabid fans and 役割s that made them famous. The end result is a mostly fun but いつかs uneven 投機・賭ける into 領土 in which not all of the 生き残るing headliners are creatively comfortable. Making things more 複雑にするd, all of the 星／主役にするs are (n)役員／(a)執行力のある 生産者s on the series so the breadth of relatable vulnerability is 限られた／立憲的な.
For instance, Jason Priestly could 現実に be the worst guy in the world but his 業績／成果 as a hot 長，率いる who punches actors and cheats on his fictional wife (Vanessa Lachey) 落ちるs flat. Shannen Doherty also serves very little 目的 in the first two 分割払いs the 網状組織 previewed for critics other than to pop in and out and ぼんやり現れる over her former costars like a bad smell. A couple of quick nods to the late Luke Perry, who died に引き続いて the 複雑化s from a 一打／打撃 earlier this year, are also too few and far between.
In contrast, Brian Austin Green is やめる likable as a stay-at-home dad who embraces the 現実化 that his wife Shay (La La Anthony) is a pop singer with more 星／主役にする 力／強力にする and 影響（力） than him. The real Green is of course married to cinematic サイレン／魅惑的な Megan Fox.
Tori （一定の）期間ing and Jennie Garth, are also very 納得させるing as a couple of friends and former teen 星／主役にするs trying to deftly navigate life as grown women, wives and mothers. Every 交流 between them feels 深く心に感じた and even when Garth 侮辱s （一定の）期間ing for her 欠如（する） of practical life 技術s during an argument, the dig isn't mean-spirited. If anything, （一定の）期間ing and Garth embrace the sc hadenfreude of their real lives to an excruciating extent.
Like her "BH90210" persona, （一定の）期間ing has had problems with money and keeping a 職業 and Garth has been married three times and has a daughter who is 追求するing an 事実上の／代理 career. 噂するs and innuendo about （一定の）期間ing's actual husband Dean McDermott have also been 投げ上げる／ボディチェックするd about in the tabloids, with some wondering if he married the daughter of 最高の 生産者 Aaron （一定の）期間ing for 財政上の 推論する／理由s. （一定の）期間ing toys with this notion 同様に as her fictionalized husband's career 安定. It's as if such 外見s to reality その上の 推進する （一定の）期間ing to revel in the muck.
In another 特に ぎこちない scene, Garth 試みる／企てるs to get over her soon-to-be ex-husband by flirting with a 無作為の member of the hoi polloi. While the painful but comedic 影響 of the moment 作品, you can't help but wonder how much more Garth, （一定の）期間ing, Green and all the others will 苦しむ for our merriment. Instead of giving fans the actual character 再会 they crave, this is a show about an imagined 改造する the 星／主役にするs try to get off the ground and all the 事故s and personal 発覚s that 続いて起こる.
The latter is also predicated on the underbaked conceit that fans know all of the pratfalls each 星／主役にする has experienced behind the scenes. It's ありふれた knowledge that Gabrielle Carteris is older than her costars so it feels natural that she'd mock that age difference by often lecturing and chastising the others. Green and （一定の）期間ing's short-lived romance and Ian Ziering's fitness obsession are also fair game. But for those of us who forgot about Green's failed and 簡潔な／要約する 試みる／企てる as a white rapper, jokes about the professional misstep 行方不明になる the （警官の）巡回区域，受持ち区域. A subplot 伴う／関わるing a stalker is 平等に misplaced.
After all, Hollywood self-parodying in the vein of "抑制（する） Your Enthusiasm" and the lesser known "Real Husbands of Hollywood" and "I'm Sorry" 作品 better when absurdity （太陽，月の）食／失墜s the truth. But when "BH90210" satirizes its 星／主役にするs' 願望（する） to 改造する their 活動停止中の careers, the truth is a li ttle too real to be funny.
