TIMELINE-A long and winding road: The UK 旅行 in and out of the EU

LONDON, Jan 30 (Reuters) - The 部隊d Kingdom 投票(する)d on June 23, 2016 to leave the European Union. It will finally leave at 2300 GMT on Jan. 31 after what has been a tortuous road in and out of 会員の地位.

EARLY MISGIVINGS

London 拒絶する/低下するd to join the EU's forerunner, the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), when it was 設立するd in 1952. 総理大臣 Clement Attlee said his 労働 Party would not 受託する the economy 存在 "手渡すd over to an 当局 that is utterly undemocratic and is responsible to nobody".

Britain also stayed out of the European 経済的な Community (欧州共同体) when it was formed from the ECSC in 1957.

保守的な 総理大臣 Harold MacMillan 逆転するd this position in 1961 and sought 会員の地位 of the 欧州共同体, 説 European まとまり was an 必須の factor "in the struggle for freedom and 進歩 throughout the world".

But フラン led 抵抗, with 大統領 Charles de Gaulle 封鎖するing Britain's 即位 in 1961 and 1967. Britain joined in 1973 after フラン dropped its 反対s に引き続いて de Gaulle's 辞職 in 1969.

1975 - BRITAIN'S FIRST EUROPEAN REFERENDUM

In 1975, new 労働 総理大臣 Harold Wilson, 直面するd with 分裂(する)s の中で his 大臣s on Europe, called an "in-out" 国民投票 on 会員の地位. He 支援するd staying in after 説 a 再交渉 on 条件 of 会員の地位 had "大幅に though not 完全に" 達成するd his 客観的なs.

Britons 投票(する)d 67%-33% to stay in the 欧州共同体 in 1975.

ISSUE STILL NOT SETTLED

保守的な 総理大臣 Margaret Thatcher, who took office in 1979, had 支援するd the (選挙などの)運動をする to stay in the 圏 but her party was ますます divided by the 問題/発行する and her own 関係 with European leaders was 緊張した at times.

She attacked the idea of a 選び出す/独身 通貨 and too much 力/強力にする 存在 centralised in European 会・原則s, and in 1990 told then-(売買)手数料,委託(する)/委員会/権限 大統領 Jacques Delors "no, no, no" over his 計画(する)s for more European 統合,差別撤廃.

Her 保守的な 後継者, John Major, had to pull 英貨の/純銀の out of the European 交流 率 機械装置 (ERM) on いわゆる "黒人/ボイコット Wednesday" - Sept. 16, 1992.

He was also beset by 分割s over Europe, calling three eurosceptic 閣僚 大臣s "bastards" in 1993 after 生き残るing a 信用/信任 投票(する) over the Maastricht 条約, which 設立するd the European Union from the 欧州共同体 .

After 労働's Tony Blair won office in 1997, his 大蔵大臣, Gordon Brown, 効果的に 支配するd out euro 入ること/参加(者) by setting out five 経済的な 実験(する)s that had been worked out with his 最高の,を越す 補佐官, Ed Balls, in a New York taxi.

CAMERON'S GAMBLE BACKFIRES

The 保守的なs returned to office in 2010 after 13 years of 労働 政府.

捜し出すing to shore up support in the 直面する of party 分割s and the small eurosceptic UK Independence Party (UKIP), 総理大臣 David Cameron 約束d in the party's 2015 選挙 manifesto to 持つ/拘留する an "in-out" 国民投票 on a renegotiated 取引,協定 on EU 会員の地位.

Cameron said he was 満足させるd that 交渉s with the EU gave Britain enough for him to 支援する a "remain" 投票(する). 労働 also 支援するd "remain" but the 国民投票 result on June 23, 2016 was 52%-48% in favour of leaving.

Cameron 辞職するd the day after the 投票(する) and was 取って代わるd by Theresa May.

BREXIT MEANS NOT YET BREXIT

May 誘発する/引き起こすd Article 50, the formal EU 離婚 notice, in March 2017, setting the 出口 date of March 29, 2019 and 約束ing "Brexit means Brexit".

In a 企て,努力,提案 to 伸び(る) 支援 for her Brexit 計画(する), she called a snap 選挙 for June 2017. The 賭事 backfired. She lost her 議会の 大多数 and formed a 少数,小数派 政府.

In November 2018 she reached 協定 on the 条件 of Britain's 出発 from the 圏 with EU leaders. But 国会議員s 投票(する)d 432-202 to 拒絶する the 取引,協定 on Jan. 15, 2019 in the biggest 議会の 敗北・負かす for a 政府 in modern British history.

にもかかわらず 安全な・保証するing changes to her 取引,協定 from EU leaders, the altered 取引,協定 again was vo ted 負かす/撃墜する in March.

Britain's planned 出口 on March 29 was 延期するd until April 12 and then again until Oct. 31.

After three 敗北・負かすs of さまざまな 見解/翻訳/版s of her Brexit 取引,協定, May said on May 24 she would 辞職する.

JOHNSON AND 'GET BREXIT DONE'

Boris Johnson, a leader of the 2016 (選挙などの)運動をする to leave the European Union, won the race to 後継する May as 保守的な Party leader in July.

国会議員s 投票(する)d to 延期する Brexit again rather than 危険 leaving without a 取引,協定 on Oct. 31, but - 反抗するing his critics' 期待s - Johnson managed to agree a new Brexit 取引,協定.

EU leaders 全員一致で 支援するd the 取引,協定 on Oct. 17 but in London 議会 was still in gridlock. The Brexit date was again 延期するd until Jan. 31.

Johnson sought to break the 行き詰まり by 押し進めるing for an 選挙. With a (選挙などの)運動をする of "Get Brexit done" he won a 広範囲にわたる 大多数 in the Dec. 12 投票(する), giving him a 委任統治(領) for his Brexit 取引,協定.

The 取引,協定 passed through 議会, without ファンファーレ/誇示 and with only a small 延期する in the upper 議会, the House of Lords.

NO CHANGE YET

After Britain leaves the EU on Jan. 31 it enters into a 移行 period where nothing will change. Johnson is 押し進めるing to 結論する a 解放する/自由な-貿易協定 with the EU by the end of 2020, when that 移行 period ends.
