April 8 (Reuters) - Earl Kerr, a 57-year-old 電気の 請負業者 in Jacksonville, Florida, says he 恐れるs for his 80-year-old mother, who entered an 補助装置d living 施設 just before the coronavirus pandemic 攻撃する,衝突する the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs. And he says he worries that the 戦車/タンクing economy will 沈む his small 商売/仕事.

But he has 約束 in U.S. 大統領 Donald Trump to 扱う the 危機. He´s heard the 普及した 批評 that Trump 最初 didn´t take the pandemic 本気で, that his 行政 failed to procure 決定的な 医療の 供給(する)s and left 圧倒するd 明言する/公表するs to fend for themselves. Kerr has a different take.

"He´s not God. He can´t 予知する the 未来 or see that the ウイルス can do this or that," said Kerr, who 投票(する)d for Trump in 2016 and 計画(する)s to again in November. "He´s doing the best he can with the (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) that he gets."

Continued support from 投票者s like Kerr could 証明する 批判的な to Trump´s re-選挙 企て,努力,提案 - 特に because the 地域s where the 大統領,/社長 has drawn support often overlap with those most 攻撃を受けやすい to the pandemic, a Reuters 分析 shows. The 分析 設立する one in five of Trump´s 2016 投票者s live in areas where health and 経済的な factors 高くする,増す their 危険s from the coronavirus. Kerr is の中で 30 投票者s interviewed by Reuters who live in such at-危険 主要都市の areas in Florida, Ohio and West Virginia and who 投票(する)d for Trump in 2016 or support him now.

The interviews, along with the 最新の Reuters/Ipsos 投票ing data, show stalwart support の中で Trump´s political base まっただ中に the worst public health 危機 in a century, with a rising U.S. death (死傷者)数 that has now より勝るd 12,700, 予測s of an 経済的な 不景気, and the U.S. 株式市場's biggest first-4半期/4分の1 loss in history. But neither has Trump enjoyed the 劇の 伸び(る)s in 人気 that past 大統領,/社長s have いつかs seen during crises, when patriotism often runs hig h - illustrating a hardening of the bitter partisanship that has been the hallmark of his 行政.

Before the pandemic, the 大統領,/社長 had trumpeted a 急に上がるing economy and 記録,記録的な/記録する-low 失業 to 支持を得ようと努める the 穏健な and 独立した・無所属 投票者s he needs to 勝利,勝つ the 選挙 - 特に in 重要な battleground 明言する/公表するs such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida. That pitch evaporated in the pandemic, making perceptions of his 緊急 返答 all the more 決定的な. 最近の 投票s in Florida and Wisconsin showed Trump 追跡するing Biden by between three and six points.

Perceptions of 危機 返答 have had a pivotal 衝撃 on the 人気 of past 大統領,/社長s. The experience of George W. Bush - the last 共和国の/共和党の 大統領,/社長, also a polarizing 人物/姿/数字 - 供給するs a vivid example of partisanship breaking 負かす/撃墜する in some of the nation´s darkest times. Bush´s 是認 率ing 急に上がるd to more than 90% after the Sept. 11, 2001 テロリスト attacks, によれば Gallup 投票ing. But that 人物/姿/数字 fell below 40% after ハリケーン Katrina in 2005 and 底(に届く)d out at 25% during the 2008 財政上の 危機, helping 民主党員 Barack Obama (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 共和国の/共和党の 挑戦者 John McCain in that year´s 選挙.

Trump´s 是認 率ing, by contrast, has remained 安定した throughout his 大統領/総裁などの地位 and has 範囲d between 40% and 44% since the onset of the U.S. coronavirus 危機 in 早期に March, ブイ,浮標d by the support of 85% of 共和国の/共和党のs, によれば the 最新の April 6-7 Reuters/Ipsos 投票. That 職業 率ing makes November´s 選挙 高度に 競争の激しい, 専門家s say, though the political landscape could 転換 as the pandemic continues to (人命などを)奪う,主張する lives and 職業s. Trump (選挙などの)運動をする communications director Tim Murtaugh said 投票者s continue to support the 大統領,/社長 in part because he 行為/法令/行動するd 早期に, in late January, to 制限する travel from 中国 and 任命する a coronavirus 仕事 軍隊. "He also has an 楽観的な 見解(をとる) of America and wants to get us moving as soon as it is 安全な, while also listening to the 医療の 専門家s," Murtaugh said.

The 激しい非難 of Trump´s 返答 is just as 圧倒的な の中で 民主党員s, nearly 89% of whom disapprove of his 職業 業績/成果, little changed from pre-危機 levels, the 投票 showed. 独立した・無所属s remain 分裂(する), with 53% disapproving of the 大統領,/社長´s 業績/成果 and 42% 認可するing.

Trump 追跡するs Joe Biden, the Democratic 前線-走者, even with the publicity advantage Trump now enjoys as he appears in daily 要点説明s while Biden has 孤立するd himself from the 病気 in his Delaware home, 問題/発行するing little-noticed commentary. 登録(する)d 投票者s supported Biden by 43% to 37%, によれば the April 6-7 投票.

Kyle Kondik, a University of Virginia political 分析家, said the hyper-同志/支持者 divide over Trump 限界s both his political upside and his downside in the 危機.

"People who 予報する this 大統領,/社長 will 苦しむ long-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 是認 下落するs have been wrong throughout his 大統領/総裁などの地位," he said.

`IT´S NOT HIS FAULT´

Nearly all the Trump 支持者s interviewed by Reuters said the マスコミ and 民主党員s are 不公平に 非難するing him for a problem that no one could have 予報するd.

Several still に例えるd the new coronavirus to a seasonal flu - echoing Trump comments 早期に in the 危機 - even after the 大統領,/社長´s own characterization of the 突発/発生 had changed and his 助言者s said this ウイルス is 10 times more 致命的な. The 投票者s interviewed 称讃するd Trump for the $2.2 一兆 救助(する) 一括 passed by 議会. They believe the pandemic's 経済的な 落ちる-out means that the country needs Trump - a 実業家 - more than ever to steer it out of doldrums.

Many said he's doing the best possible 職業 in an impossible 状況/情勢.

"It´s not his fault that this happened," Barbara Raccina, 76, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, who 投票(する)d for Trump in 2016 and will do so again in November. "I think he´s trying to help as much as he can. The 残り/休憩(する) is up to us to stay indoors."

Raccina and the other 投票者s interviewed live in ar eas that supported Trump in 2016 and are now 特に 攻撃を受けやすい to the pandemic. The Reuters 分析 identified the areas through data from the U.S. 国勢(人口)調査 Bureau, the Bureau of Labor 統計(学) and the 中心s for 病気 支配(する)/統制する and 予防. Reuters 診察するd the 百分率 of people who smoke, have 喘息 or other 条件s that can raise the 危険 of dying from COVID-19, the 病気 原因(となる)d by the coronavirus. The 分析 also factored in 経済的な data 含むing 失業 and the 百分率 of the 地元の 労働者s in 小売, who are likely to lose their paychecks in the pandemic as 蓄える/店s の近くに.

John O´Neill, 61, lives in one of those 攻撃を受けやすい 地域s - Middletown, Ohio, a 主要都市の area Trump won with 56% of the 投票(する) in 2016. Middletown has の中で the nation´s highest 百分率 of people who smoke, have the 肺 病気 COPD, or have heart 条件s, all thought to make COVID-19 more dangerous.

現在/一般に 失業した, O'Neill hopes to find work in a 倉庫/問屋 - a setting with 潜在的に high ウイルス (危険などに)さらす - and has been 診断するd with COPD. He said he´s not 関心d about the ウイルス.

"We have 10,000 people die each year of the flu," he said, "and they don´t shut 商売/仕事s 負かす/撃墜する."

O´Neill said he takes 慰安 from the 医療の 専門家s advising Trump, such as Anthony Fauci, the nation's 最高の,を越す 感染性の 病気 公式の/役人, who appears と一緒に the 大統領,/社長 at テレビ放送するd 要点説明s. Fauci has become something of a 教団 hero - often 賞賛するd by commentators with マスコミ 出口s the 大統領,/社長 爆破s as 自由主義の-leaning because Fauci has 公然と 否定するd Trump´s 保証/確信s that the pandemic was under 支配(する)/統制する.

O´Neill 見解(をとる)s Fauci as one of the 大統領,/社長´s 信用d 助言者s.

"If Fauci and them are telling him, `No, we shouldn´t be doing this,´ I´m sure Trump will listen to them," he said.

'TRYING TO GIVE US HOPE´

With the 危機 still in its 早期に days, Trump's 支持者s are mindful of the 危険 that 支持者s' 信用/信任 in his 危機 res ponse could fade if death (死傷者)数s 開始する and 在庫/株s continue to 宙返り/暴落する.

非,不,無 of the 投票者s who spoke to Reuters have yet lost a family member to the ウイルス. Compared to other parts of the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs, there have been few 確認するd 事例/患者s in the parts of Florida, Ohio, and West Virginia that Reuters 診察するd, in part because より小数の 実験(する)s are 存在 taken in those areas.

Out of the 30 Trump 投票者s, Reuters 設立する only one whose support has been shaken by the 大統領,/社長's pandemic 返答 - a 登録(する)d 共和国の/共和党の in Cincinnati in his 30s, who asked not to be identified.

After the first U.S. 事例/患者 was 報告(する)/憶測d in January, Trump 繰り返して 主張するd it was nothing to worry about and would disappear "like a 奇蹟." As recently as late March, Trump 示唆するd 規模ing 支援する coronavirus 制限s by 復活祭 to 生き返らせる the economy, before 結局 延長するing social distancing 指導基準s through April.

The Cincinnati 投票者 said he is considering 投票(する)ing for Biden in November.

Another 投票者 who supported Democratic 大統領の 候補者 Hillary Clinton in 2016, however, said she will 支援する Trump this time. Amy Frasure, 32, of southern Ohio´s Lawrence 郡, runs an advertising 機関 across the 国境 in West Virginia. She said it makes sense that Trump has 供給するd a more 上昇傾向 査定/評価 than 明言する/公表する 知事s, who have to raise the alarm to 効果的に を取り引きする public health and 経済的な 災害s on the 前線 lines.

Trump´s 職業, she said, is "to make us more comfortable with the fact that there´s something crazy going on."

Some of those who continue to support Trump said the 大統領,/社長 could have taken a more serious トン on the pandemic.

"It bothers me a little when (Trump) says everyone should be 支援する to work by 復活祭, 商売/仕事 にわか景気ing, things like that," said Mary Cogan, 52, 副/悪徳行為-議長,司会を務める of the 共和国の/共和党の Party in Lawrence 郡. "But then... I think he is probably just trying to give our nation hope."

Cogan, who called Trump´s 全体にわたる 危機 返答 "awes ome," said every 地元の 共和国の/共和党の she knows remains 確固たる in their Trump support. She 推定する/予想するs the 郡, where 70% of 投票者s supported Trump in 2016, to 支援する him again.

"He will 統治する here in Lawrence 郡," she said.
