BANGKOK, July 9 (Thomson Reuters 創立/基礎) - Street vendors in India are 苦しむing from lower 収入s and ill health as they lose 接近 to shade in cities where trees are felled to make way for construction, 研究員s said on Thursday.

As deadly heatwaves become more たびたび(訪れる) in 熱帯の countries such as India, loss of shade can 厳しく 影響する/感情 those who live and work on the streets, によれば a 熟考する/考慮する by 研究員s at India's Azim Premji University.

The 熟考する/考慮する of the southern Indian city of Hyderabad showed that women and new migrants, 同様に as vendors in poorer neighbourhoods are at greater 危険 of 存在 否定するd shade.

"As the 最初の/主要な day-time occupiers of 都市の streets, in hot cities the importance of wooded streets becomes 根底となる in 確実にするing a comfortable, liveable work 環境," co-authors Sukanya Basu and Harini Nagendra wrote.

But "street vendors are 大部分は left out of considerations of 都市の 生態学の planning, にもかかわらず 存在 の中で the most 影響する/感情d by the availability of shaded streets," they said in the 熟考する/考慮する published in the Landscape and 都市の Planning 定期刊行物.

Green spaces help 減ずる the いわゆる 都市の heat-island 影響 - under which cities are often several degrees warmer than nearby 田舎の areas, help clean the 空気/公表する and 補充する groundwater, によれば 環境保護主義者s.

City dwellers in leafy neighbourhoods also tend to live longer, によれば a 熟考する/考慮する last year by the Barcelona 学校/設ける for 全世界の Health.

But にわか景気ing Indian cities are losing green spaces 速く as more land is needed to build metro lines and apartment 封鎖するs.

The scarcity of 都市の green spaces 世界的な became (疑いを)晴らす as the coronavirus pandemic 軍隊d lockdowns, 誘発する/引き起こすing a 急ぐ to parks for 演習 and to 改善する 井戸/弁護士席-存在.

In Hyderabad, where summer-time 気温s routinely 急に上がる above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), construction often results i n the felling of trees and 通関手続き/一掃 of vendors, as does the beautification of public spaces.

For street vendors, trees help 延長する the life of the 製品s they sell and draw more 顧客s, besides 申し込む/申し出ing 一時的休止,執行延期 from the heat, Basu said.

"接近 of street vendors to public green spaces and their 権利 to shade is 批判的な in the 状況 of the 権利 to the city," she told the Thomson Reuters 創立/基礎.

But gentrification results in unequal 接近 to shade, she 追加するd.

Wealthier, 居住の neighbourhoods in Hyderabad, a 科学(工学)技術 中心, had より小数の vendors and more trees on the streets, while low-income and congested neighbourhoods with more vendors had より小数の trees.

"A public green space should be equitable - going beyond aesthetics," Basu said.

"It is important for planners to understand that these green spaces are the workspace for vendors, and in some instances their 住居, 同様に."

In cities across developing nations, 当局 often 見解(をとる) street vendors as a hindrance to 進歩 and 的 them for 軍隊d evictions, にもかかわらず 証拠 that they 与える/捧げる to the 地元の economy and the city's character.

"The city can be conceptualised and designed as a place where formal and informal co-存在する," said Shalini Sinha, India 代表者/国会議員 for WIEGO, a 非,不,無-利益(をあげる) that 前進するs the 権利s of women informal 労働者s.

"But the very 概念 of a city 現在/一般に 土台を崩すs vendors and their 権利 to the city," she said. (報告(する)/憶測ing by Rina Chandran @rinachandran; Editing by Michael Taylor.
