祈りs of 感謝 for 選挙 of 'daughter of India' Harris as U.S. VP

CHENNAI, India, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Indians burst 爆竹s on Sunday and 申し込む／申し出d 祈りs of 感謝 over the 選挙 of Kamala Harris as the next U.S. 副／悪徳行為 大統領，／社長, 宣言するing it a proud moment for Indian-Americans.
Harris, born to an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, both of whom immigrated to the 部隊d 明言する／公表するs to 熟考する／考慮する, made history by becoming the first woman to 勝利，勝つ the second-highest U.S. office in the 選挙.
At her ancestral village in southern India, 13,987 km (8,691 miles) from Washington D.C., children clutched posters of Harris as people gathered at a Hindu 寺 to thank the gods for the victory that she and 大統領，／社長-elect Joe Biden won.
Priests at the 寺 in Thulasendrapuram village bathed the 地元の deity in milk and prayed. Women drew murals in the 中庭 and musicians played 伝統的な music.
"A woman あられ／賞賛するing from this small village now 持つ／拘留するs one of highest positions in U.S. It's a proud moment," said R Kamaraj, a 政府 大臣 in the southern 明言する／公表する of Tamil Nadu who joined the 祝賀s.
Harris, who visited the village when she was 5, has often 解任するd walks with her maternal grandfather on the beaches of the southern city of Chennai during 年次の trips from the U.S.
Those conversations with her grandfather, who was の中で millions of people who joined India's independence movement, left a 深遠な 衝撃, Harris said in a 2018 speech.

Dozens of 目だつ Indians and Americans of Indian origin also took to social マスコミ to congratulate Harris, 含むing actors Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Mindy Kaling.
Kaling tweeted images of Harris and wrote "Crying and 持つ／拘留するing my daughter, 'look baby, she looks like us'."
