FOCUS-Homebound 労働者s 注入する life into 郊外の 商店街s after downtowns empty out

TORONTO/LISBON, Nov 8 (Reuters) - As the coronavirus pandemic 激怒(する)s and most downtown office 従業員s in many cities work from home at least through year-end, 都市の retailers' loss is turning out to be 郊外の shopping centres' 伸び(る).

For many years, downtown 商店街s have been more profitable, attracting office-goers and tourists congregating in city centres, while 郊外の 商店街s have been relegated to the 役割 of poor relations.

The coronavirus pandemic is turning that on its 長,率いる. "A lot of people who used to 減刑する/通勤する to downtowns on a daily basis are not anymore," said Tim Sanderson, 長,率いる of Canadian 小売 at real 広い地所 services 会社/堅い JLL in Toronto. At lunchtime on a Friday before a long 週末, Cadillac Fairview's 目印 Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto, North America's busiest 商店街 before the pandemic, remained eerily 静かな.

Yorkdale shoppers Tamara and her husband Jason will visit the 商店街 at least once to "see what the mayhem is," they said.
