Oscar-winning 'Moonstruck' actress Olympia Dukakis dies at 89

May 1, (Reuters) - Olympia Dukakis, who won an Oscar for her 業績／成果 as a sardonic, middle-老年の mother who advises her headstrong daughter on 事柄s of love in the 1987 romantic film comedy "Moonstruck," died on Saturday at age 89.
Dukakis - a cousin of 不成功の 1988 Democratic U.S. 大統領の 指名された人 Michael Dukakis - passed away at her New York City home on Saturday morning after months of failing health, said her スパイ／執行官, Allison 徴収する. Her daughter, Christina Zorich, was by her 味方する.
The Massachusetts-born daughter of Greek 移民，移住（する）s, Dukakis worked for １０年間s as a 行う／開催する／段階, TV and film actor before ロケット／急騰するing to fame at age 56 playing the mother of Cher's character in "Moonstruck."

Dukakis, a master of deadpan humor, also was 指名するd for Emmy awards for TV 役割s in 1991, 1998 and 1999.
But her most indelible 業績／成果 （機の）カム in director Norman Jewison's "Moonstruck" as Rose Castorini, a Brooklyn woman with a cheating plumber husband (Vincent Gardenia) and a 未亡人d bookkeeper daughter (Cher) who has an 事件／事情／状勢 with her fiance's オペラ-buff brother (Nicolas Cage).

Dukakis said she enjoyed her fame after "Moonstruck."
"The fun part is that people pass me on the street and yell lines from my movies," she told the Los Angeles Times in 1991. "For 'Moonstruck' they say, 'You're life is going 負かす／撃墜する the 洗面所.'"
