It's a red 厚板 that's played a 重要な 役割 in Scottish and English 王室の history and now... the 石/投石する's coming 支援する home to a new £27 million museum!

What is it about a 厚板 of red sandstone that’s 説得するd a hard-圧力(をかける)d Scottish 会議 to spend £27 million on it?

That’s the sum 要求するd for a new museum in Perth.

It opens on March 30 and will be 十分な of 利益/興味ing stuff. But the main 推論する/理由 it’s been built is to house the 石/投石する Of Scone.

The 厚板 is also known as The 石/投石する Of 運命. It has been used in the 載冠(式)/即位(式) of 君主s since 1307 and Scottish ones for centuries before that.

Now the 石/投石する, which used to be in Edinburgh?城, is coming home. There are many romantic rumours about its origins ― one traces it 支援する to the 調書をとる/予約する of Genesis.

But more prosaic 3D imaging 証明するd that it was indeed quarried 近づく the 古代の village of Scone, a mile or so from Perth.

Once in the new museum, which will be housed in the old city hall, the 石/投石する will be 解放する/自由な to see, but you will have to 調書をとる/予約する a slot.

The 開始 is a chance to 称讃する the attractions of Perth and Perthshire. 地理学的に, it’s like a big heart in the centre of Scotland, an 平易な 運動 from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

It’s usually 促進するd as ‘the gateway to the Highlands ― a 田舎の expanse of low hills, lochs and rivers and (for Scotland) a 比較して 乾燥した,日照りの and 穏やかな 気候.

Start at Scone Palace itself, where the 石/投石する was first used to 栄冠を与える a king, Kenneth MacAlpin, in 843.

The palace is a handsome pile, rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style, but with the 初めの abbey chapel on 討議する Hill above it.

It does very 井戸/弁護士席 out of events such as the Scottish Game Fair in July. You can stay in a 抱擁する apartment and have the 広い地所 to yourself if the Earl of Mansfield and family are not in 住居.

I 駅/配置するd myself at The Taybank in arty Dunkeld, built on land 埋め立てるd from the Tay when Thomas Telford put his 橋(渡しをする) over it in 1809.

It’s a pubby hotel with terrific food by Gemma, its own sauna and riverside ‘beach’.

It’s dog-friendly, too. I walked 地雷 to Birnam, on the opposite bank, where an 古代の sycamore is the last 残余 of the 広大な/多数の/重要な forest that so spooked Macbeth in Shakespeare’s play.

Centuries of 繁栄 have left the city with 罰金 streets, riverside walks, cafes and parks.

It was once the 資本/首都, and with its magical 石/投石する Of 運命 支援する, Perth will once again feel like the very heart of Scotlan d.
