The break-up that made our marriage stronger: Michael Douglas 明らかにする/漏らすs what brought him and his beloved wife Catherine Zeta-Jones 支援する together

  • Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones separated 簡潔に in 2013?
  • His 癌 戦う/戦い and other 強調する/ストレスs had taken its (死傷者)数
  • Now they are 支援する together and 'closer than ever'?

Michael Douglas speaks 堅固に about the 明言する/公表する of his marriage to Catherine Zeta-Jones. 'We are doing 広大な/多数の/重要な,' he says, looking pretty good himself when we 会合,会う on the Disney studio lot in Hollywood. He is dressed casually and his mane of silver hair is swept 支援する from a tanned 直面する that, at 70, radiates health.

However, it's been a rough few years for him, and he's the first to 認める it. Five years ago, he discovered he was 戦う/戦いing 行う/開催する/段階 4 癌 of the tongue. After a gruelling 政権 of 放射(能) and chemotherapy he 回復するd, only to discover that his illness and other 強調する/ストレスs had taken a (死傷者)数 on his family: from May to November of 2013, he and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones underwent a 裁判,公判 分離, to his obvious 苦しめる.

The good news is that ? touch 支持を得ようと努めるd ? time seems to have cured both of Michael's ills. Now 癌-解放する/自由な, and 支援する together with Catherine and their children, Dylan, nearly 15, and Carys, 12, he says that, after the ordeal they've both gone through, his 社債 with his wife could not be stronger.

'We're closer than ever,' he tells me with palpable 救済. 'I think that when both parties want to work something out, they can. It was 相互の love that brought us 支援する to each other ? we've been 支援する together for two years and it's all worked out just 罰金.?

'The kids are doing 広大な/多数の/重要な, too. They had a (疑いを)晴らす understanding of what was going on ? I don't think there were a lot of secrets kept ? and they're 罰金 now. To sum up, no news is good news, and that's what we have!'

He'd rather keep it 私的な when we 会合,会う, but it seems he's been feeling the need for more than the usual family support lately.?

A couple of weeks before, his beloved mother, actress Diana Douglas, died 老年の 92 after a 戦う/戦い with 癌. Michael's chosen not to comment on his loss, but has said in the past that it was Diana who taught him many of the 必須の lessons in life ? not least, how to 扱う/治療する women.?

'I've been blessed with an 驚くべき/特命の/臨時の mother,' he once told me. 'My 態度 に向かって women has always been one of 尊敬(する)・点, and I have my mother to thank for it.'

Today he 認めるs that it was not only Diana who opened his 注目する,もくろむs about 関係s ? his father Kirk's second wife, Anne, whom he married when Michael was just nine, also did a pretty good 職業. 'The most important lesson I've learned through watching my father's 関係 with Anne, is ? happy wife, happy life!' Michael says, laughing. 'And I think that is a 重要な 成分 of a good marriage because it means you've learned to work as a team. Anne's a wonderful woman ? she's been so supportive to my father and all of us. She's terrific.'

He 収容する/認めるs that his しつけ as the son of a Hollywood legend was a little bit surreal. 'People would walk by the 支援する yard and get into the pool and be swimming, and I'd come out of the house and think, 'Who is that?' It could be Burt Lancaster, or anyone!

'In fact Burt Lancaster and my father worked together on a number of movies, and he had a 広大な/多数の/重要な line about my father, which was, 'Kirk would be the first one to tell you how difficult he is to work with ? and I'd be the second!' Really, they were good friends. Frank Sinatra was a good friend of my father's, too, and I remember going to 会合,会う him in Las Vegas and having dinner w ith Frank and his then wife Mia Farrow, who was only one or two years older than I was, and thinking, 'Huh ? how do I 演説(する)/住所 her? Do we talk about college or what?'

As for his own offspring, he says their childhood is more 負かす/撃墜する-to-earth. 'I tell them they have to think hard about what they're going to do with their life. People are living so much longer now, and my two are going to live to 110 for sure, so the question is ? what are they going to do with all the years? They're 広大な/多数の/重要な kids. Carys is a ダンサー and a very, very good one, and Dylan is an actor who also plays in a 禁止(する)d. I enjoy 存在 with them a lot.'

They also remain の近くに to Michael's 年上の son, Cameron, now 36, who in 2010 was 宣告,判決d to five years in 刑務所,拘置所 for 麻薬 取引,協定ing, and three years later was 宣告,判決d to an extra four-and-a-half yea rs after 存在 設立する in 所有/入手 of 麻薬s while in 刑務所,拘置所 ? he is 推定する/予想するd to remain locked up until 早期に 2018.

Michael has spoken 率直に about his part in his son's misfortunes. 'When you have a public 危機, as we have had with Cameron, I have to take some 責任/義務,' he once told me. 'When he was small I was immersed in my career and working and making a living ? the film 商売/仕事 can take over your world.'

But these days, he feels that Cameron is 苦しむing for 存在 his father's son in a different way, by 存在 made an example of for いっそう少なく 目だつ 違反者/犯罪者s. He sighs wearily. 'He's gone way beyond the 量 of time I think anybody should stay in 刑務所,拘置所 for a 非,不,無-violent 罪,犯罪. He's in good 形態/調整, and I have tried to stay 静かな on this 問題/発行する until he gets out of 刑務所,拘置所. But he's had his fair 株 of downtime now, and I think it's time for him to be let out.'

Ask him about his work, and he brightens. He's 現在/一般に in cinemas in the superhero movie Ant-Man, playing a scientist who invents a 控訴 that 許すs a man to 縮む to the size of an ant. Although the film is rollicking good fun, it's a fair bet that it won't be up for many Oscars; but Michael, who's already won two ? Best Picture as a 生産者 for One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in 1976, and Best Actor for 塀で囲む Street in 1988 ? and certainly has nothing left to 証明する professionally, says it was sheer joy to make.

'No one had ever asked me to be in any of these, and I'd always been a little jealous of my friends Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito who played The Joker and The Penguin in the Batman movies because it looked like they were having such a good time! I was happy to have my chance to do this and I had a wonderful time.'

The only downside, he 収容する/認めるs, was the 耐えるd his character is 要求するd to sport. 'Catherine hated it! She didn't like the way it looked or felt, so as soon as the shoot was over, I shaved it off and she was very happy about that!'

Another 事例/患者 of 'happy wife, happy life,' then? He nods, enthusiastically. 'Listen, I am a 癌 生存者, and anyone who is a 癌 生存者 knows how good it is just to be alive.'?

Ant-Man is in cinemas now.
