Fat burners and 'chilli' pills ? but do diet 麻薬s work?

To anyone who has ever been on a diet, it is a most beguiling idea: a pill to help you lose 負わせる. Sales of over-the-反対する slimming 製品s are 急に上がるing but can they really make a difference for Britain’s 13?million 食餌療法している人s? Here, DR DAVID ASHTON, 医療の director of Healthier 負わせる Centres and an 専門家 on obesity, 査定する／（税金などを）課すs some bestselling brands.

THE FAT BURNER

DR ASHTON'S VERDICT: ‘The website （人命などを）奪う，主張するs that FucoXanThin has been extensively 熟考する／考慮するd, but omits to say that almost all the work to date has been carried out on rodents.

‘Japanese scientists 設立する it 促進するs the loss of 復部の fat in obese mice and ネズミs, resulting in loss of about five to ten per cent of 団体／死体 負わせる. Another 熟考する／考慮する on FucoXanThin in humans in a reputable 科学の 定期刊行物 伴う／関わるd 151 pre-menopausal women who were 無作為に 割り当てるd to receive either FucoXanThin and pomegranate seed oil or a placebo. At the end of a 16-week 熟考する／考慮する period the FucoXanThin group had lost about 14.5?lb, 反して the placeb o group had lost just 3?lb.

Not one 熟考する／考慮する has shown they work in helping lose 負わせる.

The fact the 製造業者s don’t について言及する any 科学の 証拠 is 重要な, since what is 利用できる is not encouraging.

A review published in 2005 診察するd all the 証拠 on the 衝撃 of chitosan on 負わせる and 結論するd it had almost no 影響.’

THE CLAIM: Helps to shed unwanted 続けざまに猛撃するs by 上げるing metabolism and 燃やすing 超過 calories. The active 成分 is capsaicin, which is what gives hot red peppers their spicy taste. One daily 要約する／（宇宙ロケットの）カプセル is taken before working out or breakfast.

DR ASHTON’S VERDICT: ‘熟考する／考慮するs have 示唆するd capsaicin 減ずるs appetite while encouraging the 団体／死体 to 燃やす fat.

The question is whether or not these 影響s result in 重要な 負わせる loss.

A 熟考する／考慮する published in 2004 showed that capsaicin 要約する／（宇宙ロケットの）カプセルs given with tomato juice 減ずるd daily energy [calorie] intake by ten to 12 per cent but this 実験 lasted only two days, so any （人命などを）奪う，主張するs about 負わせる loss are little more than specul ation.

DR ASHTON'S VERDICT: ‘There is so much 誤解 about metabolic 率s.

研究 shows that overweight people 現実に have a higher metabolic 率 since they need a greater number of calories to 支える their 負わせる and they 燃やす these faster.

There is no 証拠 to 示唆する that this 製品 will do anything it says it does. Fucus is high in iodine, an 必須の 成分 of the hormone thyroxin, whic h 規制するs metabolism. But there’s no 証拠 to 示唆する it will 援助（する） 負わせる loss.’

DR ASHTON'S VERDICT: ‘Given that Alli was 初めは a prescription-only 医薬, there is good 質 科学の 証拠 to support the efficacy of the active 成分, orlistat.

But most of the 熟考する／考慮するs have been carried out with the 十分な-strength 見解／翻訳／版 of the 麻薬 (Xenical). The 普通の／平均（する） 負わせる loss for prescription-strength Xenical is modest ? 5?lb to 7?lb greater than diet and 演習 alone in one year.

DR ASHTON'S VERDICT: ‘The 一括ing says the active 成分 is ‘‘Hydroxytonin コンビナート／複合体’’. There is no such 実体 as Hydroxytonin ? it is a made-up brand 指名する for a group of 工場／植物 抽出するs that 含む／封じ込める 化学製品s 類似の to the hormone serotonin, which is known to be 伴う／関わるd in appetite 規則.

A 2009 熟考する／考慮する 設立する women taking the 工場／植物 抽出するs had a 重要な 削減 in hunger. But the question is whether they lost 負わせる and there is no 証拠 to 示唆する those using this 製品 will.’
