I've just finished reading Jennifer Egan's A Visit From The ばか者，雇い暴力団 Squad and have begun Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence. (Having been educated おもに in Sweden, I still have a Strindberg-sized 穴を開ける where some of the Anglo-Saxon 広大な／多数の／重要なs might have been.)
A Visit From the ばか者，雇い暴力団 Squad is new out, 実験の in style and 取引，協定s with 麻薬s, sex and 激しく揺する 'n' roll.
The Age of Innocence was written almost 90 years ago and 取引，協定s with the genteel and seemingly 狭くする 関心s of a society long gone even at the time of 令状ing.
Egan 令状s about time, memory, distance, 悔いる and loss. Wharton dissects the 衝突 between an individual's 願望（する） for freedom against his or her need for social 受託. These novels are more alike than one might suppose. Both 調査する that all too ありふれた disa ppointment of life not turning out in the least as we had supposed and hoped it would.
Both are written by authors whose knowledge of human nature and understanding of the human heart, （判決などを）下すs their work timeless.
... WOULD YOU TAKE TO A DESERT ISLAND?
My first thoughts were Ulysses or The 完全にする 作品 of Shakespeare, something meaty. But I think I'll go for P.G. Wodehouse's Life at Blandings Omnibus. If I were to be alone on a 砂漠 island, I might 同様に live in 楽園.
As Evelyn Waugh wrote: 'The gardens of Blandings 城 are that 初めの garden from which we are all 追放するd.'
And Wodehouse is やめる 簡単に a 熟達した writer.

Madicken by Astrid Lindgren. Madicken is a typical Lindgren ヘロイン; adventurous, a 解放する／自由な spirit. I 手配中の，お尋ね者 to be her, but stopped short of jumping off the roof to see if I could 飛行機で行く.
... LEFT YOU COLD?
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. When I first read it, I was around eight years old and it made me shiver. Then, as an adult, I re-read it many times and adored it. Who needs hallucinogenics when you've got 調書をとる／予約するs like Alice?
