On Sunday April 18, 1925, 15-year-old ジーンズ Lucey Pratt wrote the first words in her new diary. ‘I have decided to 令状 a 定期刊行物. I mean to go on 令状ing this for years and years, and it’ll be awfully amusing to read much later.’
Plenty of 十代の少年少女s 令状 something 類似の and soon give up. But not ジーンズ. She continued her 定期刊行物 until a couple of months before her death in August 1986, and her diaries, carefully 保存するd by her niece, are a remarkable 記録，記録的な／記録する of a woman’s life.
ジーンズ never married, though she wrote with haunting directness of her yearning for love and intimacy. She longed to be a writer and published a bio graphy of the 18th-century actress Peg Woffington.
But her masterpiece is her diary, with its keen 観察 and gallant 受託 of a life that didn’t turn out as she wished, but which she lived with spirit, humour and the companionship of innumerable cats.
