Of the 最近の 復活 of long-forgotten 罪,犯罪 writers, George Bellairs is one to savour. Bellairs, who made his 長,指導者 living as a bank 経営者/支配人, is an 激烈な/緊急の 観察者/傍聴者 of the human 条件 with all its 証拠不十分s. We start with the death of a 裁判官. 狙撃 pheasants in the 注ぐing rain brings on a 致命的な attack of 肺炎.

The question arises, could he have been saved? The gossip is of a 悪名高くも unfaithful wife deliberately 保留するing proper care. But when she, too, 会合,会うs an untimely death along with two of her lovers, a 悪意のある tale begins to 広げる. It 落ちるs to the unflappable 視察官 Littlejohn to delve into a family saga that 反抗するs every norm of 郡 始める,決める respectability.

His 成果/努力s are 妨害するd by a cast of 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うs variously in the 支配する of 麻薬s, mental 不安定, jealousy and 犯罪の 意図.

It is this that gives particular significance to the last in a cycle of 75 novels featuring the slow but sure 長,指導者 視察官.

It’s often said that Maigret was the author’s self-portrait, but Simenon is closer to Monsieur Charles, a rich nightclub lounger who 選ぶs up girls for 事件/事情/状勢s, as his wife 沈むs into alcoholism. Could it be that Simenon turned away in self-disgust at the character he had created?

What is 確かな is that with 17 years of life ahead of him Simenon never wrote another Maigret 調書をとる/予約する. Also beyond contentio n is that however unpleasant Simenon may have been, with Maigret he joined the company of truly 広大な/多数の/重要な writers.
