On the night of February 13, 1945, the east German city of Dresden was 事実上 obliterated by the RAF in one of the most 残酷に 効果的な 爆破 （警察の）手入れ，急襲s of the Second World War. Dresden might have been famous for its beautiful 磁器 and its splendid buildings, but under Gauleiter ツバメ Mutschmann, a personal friend of Hitler, it was a 機能（する）／行事ing cog in the Nazi war machine. The Zeiss factory, famous before the war for its cameras, was turning out precision 光学の 器具s and, like other 平時（の） 商売／仕事s in this and other cities, was reliant on a 全労働人口 of horribly maltreated slave labourers.

McKay’s 分析 of the いつかs 欠陥d thinking of 連合した strategists makes for troubling reading, but equa ting the （死傷者）数 of German 非軍事のs with the institutionalised 集団殺戮 of the Jews, as some have done, seems to me unsupportable. There is only one 大破壊／大虐殺 and the word should not be appropriated for anything else, however 恐ろしい.
The men who dropped the 爆弾s certainly didn’t think of themselves as 殺害者s of 非軍事のs ? they were too busy 簡単に trying to stay alive.
The story of one Lancaster 爆撃機 乗組員, and of its last 生き残るing member, former 爆弾-aimer Ken Cook, 供給するs the 焦点（を合わせる） for David Price’s sobering and poignant 調書をとる／予約する. The war fought up in the clouds by these mostly very young men was gruelling and remorseless 同様に as dangerous. Cook says he was embarrassed by the depictions of RAF crewmen in 戦後の British films. He remembers ‘a far tougher and coarser life of hard drinking and bad language’ than the anodyne celluloid 見解／翻訳／版.
