Lifestyle: Two-トン townhouse
Take a Victorian 郊外住宅 in London, 追加する a striking monochrome palette and 適用する indoors and out. Result? A slice of true East End 演劇

The house needed everything doing to it when we bought it,’ 解任するs Liz. ‘We’d been looking for a 所有物／資産／財産 to renovate for some time and chose this house over others with more bedrooms because of its 抱擁する 歓迎会 space and its 面.
‘We lived here while the work was going on ? the only habitable room was the eight-foot square kitchen/公共事業（料金）／有用性 room which we 株d with the 建設業者s! From start to 完成, it took seven y ears and cost around £120,000, 含むing the furniture. There wasn’t much downtime ? Alistair was very 手渡すs on, and it didn’t always run によれば 計画（する）, but it has been 価値（がある） it.?
‘Alistair would be happy to live in a white box but I’m more eclectic, so the 妥協 is we mix old with new. The high 天井s and generous 割合s 許すd us to be 勇敢に立ち向かう and 劇の with a monochrome palette.
‘The house 直面するs south which makes a wonderful difference to the light inside and also to the garden. We opened the 地階 to create a big family-room-cum-kitchen and 追加するd 倍のing patio doors to give a feeling of seamless 連続. With the help of a landscape gardener we redesigned the outdoor space, separating it into three 際立った areas ? the terrace outside the family room, the flower garden and the deck at the 後部, where we barbecue and entertain. In summer we’re out in the garden all the time ? it becomes an 拡張 of the house.
‘It’s so 平和的な and 静かな that it’s hard to believe we’re in the middle of London. Isabella and Imogen love to play in the garden and use the verandah as a 行う／開催する／段階 ? いつかs we get 扱う／治療するd to one of their 祝祭 業績／成果s.’

THE FAMILY
Liz, a magazine art director, and Alistair, a creative director, 連合させるd their artistic talent to transform a Victorian house in Hackney, East London, into a 同時代の family home for themselves and their daughters Isabella, eight, and Imogen, five.

The garden space
THE GARDEN The outside space was 完全に redesigned with the help of landscape gardener 略奪する Bratby (robertbratbygardens.co.uk).
The couple zoned the space into three different areas. The terrace の近くに to the house was 広げるd to 融通する a large dining area.

The kitchen
THE KITCHEN, The 地階 is an open-計画（する） kitchen, diner and family space with 倍のing doors 主要な out to the garden. Granite worktops contrast

The dinning room

The bathroom
THE BATHROOM, A feature 塀で囲む of 黒人／ボイコット tiles contrasts with buff tiles on all other 塀で囲むs and 床に打ち倒す to continue the monochrome palette (all worldsendtiles.co.uk). The cast-アイロンをかける Waldorf bath is from bathcentre.com and the fittings are by duravit.co.uk
How to make dark 床に打ち倒すs work ...
- Dark 床に打ち倒すs are ideally ふさわしい to large, light rooms ? they can accentuate narrowness in a tight space, making it feel cramped. Finishing the 床に打ち倒す in a high-gloss varnish will help by bouncing light 支援する up into the room to maximise the space. ?
- Keep 塀で囲むs light to 妨げる the dark 計画／陰謀 from becoming 圧倒的な. Liz and Alistai r used Natural Taupe 2 by Dulux on most of their 塀で囲むs.
- 追加する a feature 塀で囲む to 強める the look ? choose reflective glossy, metallic or pearlised patterns or texture as they will 追加する 利益／興味 by 反映するing the light.
- When furnishing remember that dark colours 吸収する the light. If you want to brighten the room 選ぶ for light-coloured furniture and introduce accents of colour with 従犯者s and soft furnishings to 追加する another dimension and 利益／興味 to the 計画／陰謀.
- Apart from their 劇の 影響, hardwood dark 床に打ち倒すs are practical ? they are more 許すing and いっそう少なく likely to shows scuffs and stains.
