'堅い and long': CBI 副 director general John Cridland

The CBI reckons the severity of 後退,不況 will be on a par with the 経済的な 低迷 of the late Nineties. But unlike last time, London and the South East will be the worst 攻撃する,衝突する as City 会社/堅いs take a 乱打するing.

Cridland said 条件s had より悪くするd in October に引き続いて the 崩壊(する) of 投資 bank Lehman Brothers and the その後の 政府 保釈(金)-out of high street banks. He 追加するd 商売/仕事s had been 攻撃する,衝突する by a sharp 減少(する) in 消費者 spending and the frozen credit markets.

The CBI's 予測 for GDP growth this year has been 改訂するd 負かす/撃墜する from 1.1 per cent to 0.8 per cent. It 推定する/予想するs the economy to 縮む by 1.7 per cent in 2009 against its previous 予測(する) of 0.3 per cent growth. And it is 予報するing a slow 回復 through 2010.

However, Cridland said there was a 'health 警告' on these 予測(する)s, 追加するing: 'It is very hard for 経済的な 予報官s at the moment. The 急速な/放蕩な-moving and 全世界の nature of this 危機 means it is impossible to look far ahead with any certainty.'

Some 1.83million people are on the 施し物, the most since 1997. The CBI said 失業 would reach 2million by Christmas and 頂点(に達する) at 2.9million by 2010. But some 経済学者s 恐れる it could 攻撃する,衝突する 3.3million.

Shop owners are likely to be the hardest 攻撃する,衝突する. Some 60 per cent of GDP is 生成するd by 消費者 spending.
