Bank's bosses are sorry now, but there's worse on the way

Reading today's 貿易（する）ing 声明 it's not hard to see why they are grovelling.

The 規模 of the 下降 in the past two months is やめる staggering.

In the first nine months of the year HBOS impairment 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金s stood at £3billion. After 11 months they stand at £5.8billion.

It's not the losses and writedowns from those 有毒な 資産s you could argue banks should never have gone anywhere 近づく.

If the subprime 危機 drove banks to the 塀で囲む (or in HBOS's 事例／患者 into the 武器 of Lloyds TSB) today's 告示 makes it plain that the second 段階 of the banking 危機 has only just begun.

Today's numbers make that more 必然的な. But what is becoming 平等に 確かな is that the 政府's £37billion bailout of HBOS, Lloyds and 王室の Bank of Scotland will 証明する not to have been enough.

HBOS has yet to receive its £11.5billion from the 政府's 購入（する） of new ordinary and preference 株. But it has already, in 影響, spent almost £3billion of it. At this 率 the bailout won't even see it through to the end of 2009.
