All over for clipboard collectors?

?

IF the 'zany' antics created by this week's Comic 救済 are not to your taste and you are 疲れた/うんざりした of 存在 buttonholed in the High Street by over-earnest charity collectors, you are not alone.

A necdotal 証拠 示唆するs that the public are becoming ますます 冷笑的な of the armies of earnest-looking youngsters with brightly coloured bibs and 悪賢い sales patter.

Charities as big as 範囲 and Greenpeace have ますます used street collectors to 調印する up new punters - 350,000, almost one in four of all 寄贈者s in 2002 - but the days of 'clipboard' canvassing may be numbered.

The 半端物 tenner isn't enough. The charities want a '関係' with their 寄贈者s. The cash is easier to manage if it comes in a flow rather than lumps and street collection seems to do it. The Public Fundraising Regulatory 協会 (PFRA) says the 普通の/平均(する) 寄付 is £3 to £10, for a period of around five years, with younger people more likely to 答える/応じる 前向きに/確かに than those over 35.

But this 伴う/関わるs 手渡すing over 極度の慎重さを要する 財政上の (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) - your banks account 詳細(に述べる)s for one - to a total stranger.

Most 直面する-to-直面する fundraising is done through 機関s, which send out street collectors to raise money. In return the charity might 支払う/賃金 the 機関 a 料金 for every 寄贈者 調印するd up, typically around £30, although some charities and fundraising 機関s have 直す/買収する,八百長をするd 支払い(額) 協定s. Collectors are paid a flat hourly 率.

Fundraising 機関s and charities also point out that 直面する-to-直面する collecting is one of the most efficient ways of raising money, with 'at least' 85p in every £1 going to the charity, によれば the PFRA.

Joseph Crossbie, assistant director of marketing and communications for The Children's Society, said street collecting has 証明するd to be the '選び出す/独身 most efficient' way of making use of its 資源s to raise money. 'We have tried all the 新採用するing methods, with the exception of direct television (選挙などの)運動をするs, and 設立する that 直面する-to-直面する collecting is better than direct mail (選挙などの)運動をするs, doorstepping and magazines. It is definitely the method we use most.'

But, shoppers have had enough, said Susan Brompton, director of the PFRA: 'We have reached satur ation point ーに関して/ーの点でs of the numbers of collectors in London, to the extent that we may have to 減ずる the number of times that fundraisers are on the streets, さもなければ people will stop giving.'

Elaine Hayes, director of Sussex 野性生物 信用, takes it one step その上の. 'For some people the direct approach just does not work. Fundraisers must realise that some people are fundamentally …に反対するd to 存在 approached.'

Charities are 規制するd by the Charity (売買)手数料,委託(する)/委員会/権限 (CC), but fundraising 機関s - as 商売/仕事s - are 規制するd by the 貿易(する)ing 基準s 学校/設ける (TSI). Almost all fundraising 機関s and charities are also 規制するd by PFRA, which operates a voluntary Code of 行為/行う designed to 保護する 消費者s.

For example, all fundraisers must '行為/法令/行動する honestly and in such a manner that 寄贈者s are not misled' while collectors must 公表する/暴露する the fact that they are paid to 可能性のある 寄贈者s. Any (民事の)告訴s can be made 直接/まっすぐに to individual charities while the PFRA (www.pfra.org.uk) has the 力/強力にする to 罰金 companies they find have failed to がまんする by the Code of 行為/行う.
