After years of arguing over the best way to 妨げる online 詐欺, ビザ and Mastercard are ready to introduce new systems. But one card-issuer, internet bank cahoot - part of Abbey 国家の - says the new systems don't go far enough and will take months, if not years, to get up and running.

ビザ and Mastercard's systems both need the cardholder, the retailer and the banks 取引,協定ing with them to co-operate to make the 計画/陰謀 work. In 新規加入, Switch and American 表明する are looking at different methods.

Tim Sawyer of cahoot says: 'Everyone wants their own 基準. But all 顧客s want is a hassle-解放する/自由な way of 支払う/賃金ing online without having their card number stolen and the worry of rogue 処理/取引s cropping up on their 法案.'

Mastercard is introducing a Unique Cardholder Authentication Field (UCAF), which sits on the retailer's website. When you buy online, you will be asked for your card number and the extra three digits printed on the 署名 (土地などの)細長い一片 on the 支援する of your card. Anyone copying your card or getting the card number from an old 処理/取引 (土地などの)細長い一片 will not have this number. Your card company authorises the 処理/取引, and the retailer has to check that the 配達/演説/出産 演説(する)/住所 you have 供給するd is the same as the one held on とじ込み/提出する with the card issuer.

ビザ's system, called 3D 安全な・保証する, is 存在 rolled out across Europe this year. You have to 登録(する) to get a password from your card issuer. The password is used whenever you shop over the internet to 証明する you are the 本物の owner of the card. The retailer and the bank have to bring in new systems to be able to recognise the password.

But both these systems mean that you still have to put your credit or debit card number on the web. Cahoot has introduced a 事実上の card, called the webcard, which it says has already stopped £1m of 詐欺 since it was started at the beginning of the year. With the webcard, your real credit card or debit card number is never given out. Instead, you 負担 the webcard ソフトウェア on to your computer, which gives you a new number every time you make a 購入(する). Anyone getting 持つ/拘留する of the number and trying to use it wi ll have the 処理/取引 封鎖するd straight away, so you don't have to query your 声明 when it arrives days or weeks later.

It also 取り組むs another problem - that of the retailer taking more than you have agreed to. Each time you use the webcard, you 始める,決める the upper 限界 that can be used to 支払う/賃金. This not only helps to 妨げる 詐欺, but stops 論争s between you and the retailer about the 量 to be 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金d, one of the major problems with online shopping. You can also use your webcard for phone and mail order 処理/取引s, where only the number is needed.

'Even though you are not 責任がある 詐欺 committed with your card, this 除去するs a lot of hassle,' says Tim Sawyer. 'The 顧客 doesn't even realise someone has tried to use a webcard number. After the number has been used once, we turn any other 処理/取引s away.'

Advertising art director Bonnie Horton, 24, from London was one of the first to try out the webcard. She says: 'It was really quick and 平易な to use. I was pleased to find I was getting 取引s, too, though not all the prices undercut the High Street by as much as they had 誇るd. You can even find major High Street 蓄える/店s' own web 場所/位置s which sell things cheaper than in their shops.'

In a shopping 実験(する) with her twin sister Charlotte, left, who 作品 at the same 機関, Bonnie's buys worked out at almost £100 cheaper. Charlotte says:'I definitely drew the short straw. I dashed out in my lunch hour to shop. The 天候 was awful and the shops were (人が)群がるd. And I had to 支払う/賃金 more for my 購入(する)s than Bonnie did.'
