SALLY SORTS IT: Why did NS&I take nine weeks to find my husband's 行方不明の £35,000 in 賞与金 社債s?

On February 7, I made a 撤退 of £35,000 from my husband’s NS&I 賞与金 社債 account and was 推定する／予想するing it to be credited three days later.

When it didn’t arrive, I 接触するd NS&I, which 結論するd that I needed to 接触する my bank.

This I did, only to be told that it’s the 責任／義務 of NS&I to trace where the money had 消えるd.

支援する I went, but this time discovered I had 以前 entered one of the numbers on the 目的地 account incorrectly.

NS&I finally agreed to start the search but told me this could take between 15 days and ten weeks.?

Sally Hamilton replies: When I rang you to find out more about this alarming 状況／情勢, you burst into 涙／ほころびs.

And no wonder. Not knowing whether you would see your £35,000 again had been keeping you awake at night with worry.

You were 特に upset as the 賞与金 社債s were 購入（する）d with an 相続物件 from your mother, who sadly died last year.

I 接触するd NS&I to ask it to 調査／捜査する and redouble i ts 成果／努力s to find your 行方不明の money. A few days later its 探偵，刑事 work 確認するd the money had gone to Santander, where you are a 顧客, but unfortunately it ended up in someone else’s account.

It appears that in September last year, when you had updated the 詳細（に述べる）s of the account where you 手配中の，お尋ね者 any 賞与金 社債 prizes or 撤退s paid, you had accidentally transposed two numbers.

As 運命／宿命 would have it, this number matched the account of another 顧客 of the bank, who received an 予期しない £35,000 windfall on February 7.?

When you 警報d NS&I to the 状況／情勢, NS&I 始めるd a ‘bank credit 回復’ from Santander. This 伴う／関わるs a bank 問題／発行するing a request to the 受取人 to return the money and usually takes at least 20 working days.

I asked NS&I what would happen if this 顧客 decided the windfall was a bank error in their favour and 辞退するd to return the money.

NS&I said it would 令状 to the 受取人, requesting that they return the 基金s. If the 顧客 still 辞退するd to send it 支援する, your next step would likely have to be 合法的な 活動／戦闘.

I didn’t find that a 安心させるing prospect. An agonising few weeks passed. But I’m glad to 報告（する）／憶測 that the 顧客 who received your money agreed to return it.

It was transferred to NatWest ― NS&I’s （疑いを）晴らすing bank ― on March 29. Frustratingly, neither you nor I were told this had happened for a その上の two weeks.

However, nine weeks after it went 行方不明の, you finally got your 基金s 支援する and can now sleep more easily. This is not the service anyone would 推定する／予想する when £35,000 is at 火刑／賭ける. NS&I agreed it had fallen short and as an 陳謝, it has paid you £315 in 補償（金）, 含むing £115 in 利益／興味.

A 広報担当者 says: ‘We would like to apologise for the level of service received from NS&I on this occasion during what was undoubtedly a stressful experience for M. D.’

Santander agreed it had 与える／捧げるd to the problem by incorrectly asking you to 供給する a ‘faster 支払い（額） ID’ to help trace your 基金s. This 言及／関連 is only 要求するd when 基金s go 行方不明の after 存在 transferred to the 訂正する account, whe reas yours went to the wrong account. It has paid you £50 as an 陳謝.

The moral of this story is that we all need to take extreme care when changing account 詳細（に述べる）s. A slip of the finger can, as in your 事例／患者, lead to 悲惨 取引，協定ing with the fallout.

Caribbean 巡航する is too hot to 扱う

In July 2021, we paid a £2,000 deposit for a 35-day 巡航する on the Spirit of Adventure ship with ROL 巡航するs and Saga.

We have been on two holidays 調書をとる／予約するd through these 会社／堅いs, the most 最近の 存在 last December, which was 30 days around the Caribbean ― like the one I am 令状ing to you about now.

When we got home from that trip, I had to visit a dermatologist with several sun-損失d areas of my 直面する and upper 団体／死体. 耐えるing this in mind, I no longer want to expose my 肌 to 過度の sunlight in the Caribbean.

My partner tried to 取り消す the new 調書をとる／予約するing, but ROL and Saga each said the other was responsible and wouldn’t reimburse our deposit.?

He asked if it could be transferred to a いっそう少なく sun-集中的な 巡航する but was told we could only 移転 it to a 類似して 定価つきの holiday ― more than £35,000.?

But these higher -定価つきの holidays are usually long 巡航するs around the Caribbean and Americas, where the sun is 猛烈な／残忍な.

I do not want to 危険 その上の sun 損失 and would like our deposit returned in 十分な.

Our earlier 巡航するs were put on 持つ／拘留する because of Covid, and ROL/Saga held on to our money on 信用 through these years.

Sally Hamilton replies: You were all at sea with your （民事の）告訴 partly because it was not （疑いを）晴らす which company you and your partner needed to speak to. You were passed from 中心存在 to 地位，任命する before finally 接触するing me.

It said you could either 移転 the holiday and take shorter (潜在的に いっそう少なく sun-drenched) voyages, splitting the value across a couple of bookings. Or you could 取り消す the 調書をとる／予約するing through your Saga travel 保険 at a cost of £80 per person.

The 激しい sun turned out not to be your only worry, as you and your partner have developed other health 条件s which have made you rethink the 知恵 of travelling at all. You decided to take the 取り消し 大勝する and were happy to 支払う／賃金 the total £160 料金.

ROL liaised with Saga, which has now returned the remaining £1,840 of your deposit.
