McAlpine builds up defences

Construction group McAlpine 支えるd its defences against the £ 275 million 企て，努力，提案 approach this week from 所有物／資産／財産 developer Andrew Goodall with a 52% jump in 暫定的な 利益（をあげる）s to £17.3 million pre-税金.

This comapred with £11.4 million last year, and the group said its 的 of 達成するing 15% growth i n 収入s per 株 every year would continue.

McAlpine 発表するd on Tuesday that it had received a 260p a 株 approach from Brunswick 開発s, the Goodall family-controlled company behind Brighton Marina.The 260p-a-株 会談 follow the entrepreneur's 不成功の 引き継ぎ／買収 試みる／企てる in April valuing McAlpine's 株 at 215.2p - or £243 million.

Turnover at McAlpine was up to £359.5 million from £286.2 million.

Chairman Sir Terence Harrison said: 'Both our 核心 商売／仕事s are 論証するing that they can 終始一貫して 配達する 質 収入s from the solid base that has been created.'

Operating 利益（をあげる）s at McAlpine's house building 商売／仕事 were up 堅固に at £15.7 million, from £11.7 million.

The company せいにするd the rise to the strong 住宅 market, but it echoed 最近の comments from other housebuilders in 解任するing 恐れるs of a 1980s-style 住宅 にわか景気.'General comment on the 住宅 market overheating is not borne out by the experience,' Sir Terence said in his results 声明.

株主s will receive an 暫定的な （株主への）配当 of 3.5p a 株, up from 3.2p a 株.
