BAA boss takes on 航空機によるs

He has taken part in the world's highest bungee jump - a 708 ft 急落（する），激減（する） at Bloukrans 橋（渡しをする） in South Africa. He has cycled 508 miles 非，不，無-stop on a 大勝する crossing Death Valley in America. But now Stephen Nelson, whose company runs Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, is taking the biggest 危険 of all.

He has thrown out the 管理／経営 maxim dictating that the 顧客 is always 権利 and decided to turn the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議するs in the 非難する game on to his biggest cl ients - the 航空機によるs.

After months of fevered 批評 for levels of service that have によれば detractors transformed Heathrow, the UK's 首相 gateway, into a 国家の 不名誉, BAA - owned by Spain's Ferrovial - has decided to take on its tormentors.

長，指導者 (n)役員／(a)執行力のある Nelson and his 上級の team at the beleaguered company are so fed up with carrying the can for all the ills at their airports - 範囲ing from dirty loos, mucky carpets and broken escalators to baggage 延期するs, 抱擁する check-in 列s and lost luggage - that they have decided to take 目的（とする） at their accusers, the 航空機によるs.

Its main 的 必然的に will be British 航空路s, which 支配するs Heathrow and which has incensed BAA by calling for it to be broken up. 航空機によるs argue that if Gatwick is sold, its 管理／経営 will compete with Heathrow and that will mean lower 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金s. At 現在の it costs about £10 per 乗客 to land a 計画（する） at Heathrow and only £5 at Gatwick.

British 航空路s is 個人として furious that BAA should be seen to be trying to point the finger at its main 顧客. Unsurprisingly, BAA is arguing 熱心に in favour of the status quo, hinting that a break-up could jeopardise 計画（する）s to 投資する another £3.7bn to 改善する Heathrow.

Nelson, a former Sainsbury's 貿易（する）ing and marketing director, also wants the CAA to 許す him to make more 利益（をあげる）s. The regulator has said it will 許す him to make a 6.6% return on 資本／首都 - 負かす／撃墜する from 7.5% now.

Nelson says this is not enough and he 脅すs that if the regulator is not more amenable, the 高くつく／犠牲の大きい 改良s could be 溝へはまらせる／不時着するd.

But the 隠すd 脅し of an 投資 strike could just be one step too far for Nelson.

When British 航空路s 長，率いるs to the new 終点 5 next spring, it will leave another 90 or so 運送／保菌者s at its 存在するing 終点s, furious at the prospect that the 第三世界-style surroundings in which they operate will 単に receive a lick of paint and a couple of stretches of new carpet tiles.
