City shocked by weak Christmas 小売 sales

Disappointing: 小売 sales in December were lower than 推定する/予想するd

Sales 容積/容量s grew by just 0.3% in December, 井戸/弁護士席 below the 1.1% growth 推定する/予想するd by City 分析家s. Year-on-year sales 容積/容量s were up 2.1% - the lowest 年次の growth for a December since 1998.

But 小売 sales values were up 3.6% year-on-year - the second highest for the month since 2001.

James Knightley of ING 財政上の Markets said: 'The December UK 小売 sales 報告(する)/憶測 has 供給するd a major shock this morning by growing at a very modest 0.3% month-on-month 率 versus market 期待s of a 1.1% 伸び(る).

'In fact, the 0.3% 月毎の rise meant that sales in Q4 as a whole rose by いっそう少なく than in Q3 - 示すing that if the economy (機の)カム out of 後退,不況 at the end of last year, it wasn't 予定 to the 小売 部門.'
