BP's Svanberg gets skewered again

Something in the 命令（する） and 支配（する）／統制する at BP has gone horribly wrong.

In much the same way as Tony Hayward was hopelessly over-楽観的な about the prospects for sorting the Macondo oil 災害 last year, so his 後継者 （頭が）ひょいと動く Dudley looks to have swallowed the same happy pill .

Dudley's 急ぐ to get before the cameras and 発表する his 北極の クーデター on January 14 this year without （疑いを）晴らすing the 事柄 with his partners at TNK-BP was the first mistake.

It has been downhill ever since with every 決定／判定勝ち（する） going against Britain's oil major and in favour of TNK-BP and the oligarchs.

Even now with another 最終期限 行方不明になるd and the smell of 失敗 in its nostrils BP is 主張するing that the doors are still open.

It believes it can pip 可能性のある 競争相手s to the finish line with Rosneft in the 北極の because it is the only player 用意が出来ている to engage in an 公正，普通株主権 交換（する）. That again has more than a whiff of over-楽観主義.

One might have hoped that BP chairman Carl Henric Svanberg, a remarkable 生存者 of the 湾 of Mexico debacle, might have learned something from the last 危機 and perhaps 抑制するd the enthusiasm of the impressive but over-energetic Dudley for a 取引，協定 明確に built on 転換ing sands.

But as was the 事例／患者 with Hayward he seems willing to leave his 長，指導者 (n)役員／(a)執行力のある to hang out to 乾燥した，日照りの.

Hopefully, he hasn't decided this time to spend an afternoon on his ヨット or to use his charm to sway the Kremlin and the ロシアの people in the same way as he ingratiated himself with the White House and the 'little people' during the 湾 災害.

No 疑問 when the headhunters looked for a 後継者 to Peter Sutherland as chairman Svanberg ticked all the boxes. Most importantly he appeared to have no stains against his 指名する.

It is the search for 'Mr Cleans' which, in fact, may be the problem. Simon Murray, for all his 失敗ing 1950s 態度s, may instinctively be a better chairman at Glencore having worked so closely with one of Hong Kong's richest and most tricky 王朝s.

There was some 批評 of Sir John 社債 as 議長，司会を務める of Vodafone when the true extent of the problems at 世帯 in the US, bought by HSBC under his stewardship, were 明らかにする／漏らすd.

But the mistakes at HSBC were not repeated at Vodafone where a smooth t ransition to a new 長，指導者 (n)役員／(a)執行力のある, Vittorio Colao, was organised and there was a 抱擁する 押し進める into 現れるing markets and data which is now 支払う／賃金ing off handsomely.

Whether 社債's 交替／補充, a decaffeinated Dutchman Gerard Kleisterlee of Philips, is ready for the rough and 宙返り／暴落する of 法人組織の／企業の life under the Anglo-Saxon model of capitalism is unproven.

He was an 平易な choice for the headhunters and 指名／任命 委員会 because his 記録，記録的な／記録する is unblemished. Warts and all choices as chairman may - in the line of 解雇する／砲火／射撃 - be more useful.

国際通貨基金 stained

Even during its 年次の 会合s, when hundreds of 新聞記者／雑誌記者s from around the world are 信じる／認定／派遣するd to the International 通貨の 基金, it rarely 獲得するs the headlines attracted since the 早期に hours of Sunday morning.

The combination of an 申し立てられた／疑わしい sex 罪，犯罪 by the 国際通貨基金's managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn and money has 証明するd irresistible to the 全世界の マスコミ.

But it will not be very welcome in Washington. Of all the 全世界の 財政上の 団体／死体s the 国際通貨基金 is the one which prides itself on rectitude and prefers to operate in the 影をつくる／尾行するs rather than the public スポットライト when it goes about its 商売／仕事 of 救助（する）ing frail nations.

The 関心 is now growing that it is as much brand 国際通貨基金 as DSK which is 存在 損失d by the 現在進行中の publicity and ever-louder 発言する／表明するs are calling for his 辞職.

There is some politics to this. The Europeans, who are making the most noise, 明確に think that the sooner DSK can be consigned to the dust heap the more quickly they can 行為／法令／行動する to chisel one of their own into the 職業 - rather than 許すing 勢い to build behind an 現れるing market 候補者.

正確に how DSK is meant to 辞職する is not （疑いを）晴らす given that he is in all but 独房監禁 confinement at Rikers Island in New York. But one 推定するs he could do it through his lawyers.

DSK may have other things on his mind at 現在の. But the 会・原則 he symbolises must come first.
