A hero of the Chernobyl 災害 is の中で those to 逃げる Kyiv.

Alexei Ananenko, 62, was one of three men who volunteered to wade through 放射性の water in May 1986 to 妨げる a second cataclysmic 爆発 at the stricken 核の 原子炉.

They were dubbed 自殺 divers for the perilous 使節団, but he said he was just doing his 職業.

Now in poor health after 存在 攻撃する，衝突する by a car five years ago, he and his wife Valentina, 53, yesterday fled Kyiv for western ウクライナ共和国.

Speaking on the dangerous road out of Kyiv, she said: 'Alexei and I have left to go to western ウクライナ共和国.

'I need to stay alive to care for him, and he must stay alive. I want to save my life so I can 長引かせる his life. Without my care he will 結局最後にはーなる helpless in a nursing home or, in the worst 事例／患者, homeless.'

The 爆発 on April 26, 1986, destroyed 原子炉 No 4 at the 核の 工場／植物, now in ウクライナ共和国 but then part of the Soviet Union.
