まっただ中に the 悲しみ, a smile
by PAUL HARRIS, Daily Mail
One 簡潔な/要約する moment 逮捕(する)d the remarkable fortitude of the Queen yesterday during the darkest days of her life. いっそう少なく than 48 hours after she had watched her mother die, she 設立する the strength to laugh.
It was the first 指示,表示する物 that, as she 準備するs for her second family funeral in seven weeks, she is using all the experience of 50 years of 王室の 義務 to 持続する a dignified public 直面する.
So yesterday, rising above their 特許 grief, it was 商売/仕事 as usual for the Queen and the members of her family around her.
They didn't wear 黒人/ボイコット, not yet at least. They spent part of the day liaising over the final 手はず/準備 for the Queen Mother's funeral and interment, and taking care of the 仕事s that every family must do when a loved one dies. But first they went out riding.
And nothing illustrated the Queen's 決意 to 打ち勝つ her emotional 騒動 better than the (n)艦隊/(a)素早いing snapshot that walkers in Windsor 広大な/多数の/重要な Park 証言,証人/目撃するd yesterday morning.
In the crisp, spring 空気/公表する she (機の)カム out of the 王室の stables on one of her favourite horses, wrapped in a floral headscarf and わずかに 屈服するd against the 微風.
On one 味方する was her groom, on the other her daughter Princess Anne.
Both women looked 深い in thought. Without 疑問 this was a morning ride ーするつもりであるd as much to (疑いを)晴らす their 長,率いるs as to 演習 the horses.
Then, a few minutes into their 旅行 in the 影をつくる/尾行する of Windsor 城, the sun caught the Queen's 直面する in unrestrained laughter.
Whatever joke she was 株ing with the Princess 王室の, it certainly 解除するd the gloom.
The Queen finds 広大な/多数の/重要な 慰安 in riding and tries to make time for at least one daily 遠出 while at Windsor, her favourite home.
She is said to have returned 'markedly refreshed' after the excursion, on which she 遭遇(する)d Prince Edward on his morning ride through the 支持を得ようと努めるd.
Another smile crept across her 直面する when Edward, astride a piebald horse, jauntily doffed his riding hat to her.
A Windsor source said: 'Her Majesty finds riding a 完全にする 緩和. I can't think of any better therapy for her at this 現在の time.
'And いつかs, 存在 able to laugh is the best therapy of all.'
Whether the smiles she 株d with Anne and Edward were a 審議する/熟考する 試みる/企てる to 解除する her spirits or 簡単に unscripted family moments remained 不明瞭な to 部外者s - but there surely cannot be enough of them in the coming days.
The happy picture of the Queen yesterday was contrasted with her obvious 苦痛 as she 現れるd red-注目する,もくろむd on Sunday after a 私的な evensong service in the 王室の Chapel of All Saints.
Still 嘆く/悼むing her sister, she had been 軍隊d to 証言,証人/目撃する her mother 'giving up the will to live', as one 観察者/傍聴者 put it - and then to 持つ/拘留する her 手渡す as she slipped 平和的に into death in her room inside the 王室の 宿泊する at Windsor.
The modest chapel, within sight of the 宿泊する and a few hundred yards from where the Queen 棒 yesterday, still houses the Queen Mother's 棺 and さまざまな members of her family said their 祈りs there again yesterday.
The Queen spent an hour inside the 宿泊する before leaving at the wheel of a car with Lord Linley and Sarah Chatto in the 乗客 seats.
So, except for four gamekeepers 割り当てるd to remain with the 棺 until it is moved to London as the 焦点(を合わせる) for public 嘆く/悼むing, the Queen Mother was once again alone yesterday.
Alone - but certainly not forgotten.
負かす/撃墜する the Long 運動 of the 広大な/多数の/重要な Park, where the 城 旗 was silhouetted at half mast against an 曇った sky, hundreds 列d to leave messages in 調書をとる/予約するs of 弔慰 opened at Windsor yesterday.
Others 追加するd to an evergrowing carpet of flowers outside-St George's Chapel inside the 城 塀で囲む, where the Queen Mother will be laid to 残り/休憩(する) と一緒に her husband King George VI.
The messages were 大部分は 簡潔な/要約する but respectful, more in the '残り/休憩(する) in peace' mould than Queen of Hearts style.
Indeed the entire atmosphere here is 完全に different from that produced by the death of Princess Margaret, and certainly nothing like the grief 刺激するd by Princess Diana's death.
But because the loss of a 101-year-old 広大な/多数の/重要な-grandmother can hardly be 予期しない, the mood was more like a 祝賀 of her life than one of shock or 悲しみ, and 涙/ほころびs have been rare indeed.
A few yards below the 城 perimeter, the Theatre 王室の billboards are advertising 'A Woman of No Importance'. Nothing could have been more incongruous yesterday.
As 67-year-old Amelia Dalkeith put it after taking three lilies to be laid on the chapel lawn: 'I didn't come here to 嘆く/悼む her, I (機の)カム to show how much I admired her.
'I think that just by 存在 around for an entire century, and carrying her 基準s from one 世代 to the next, she has had as much 影響(力) as any member of the 王室の Family.
'In a hundred years from now, they'll still be calling her the Queen Mother, and everyone will know who that was.'
