Most touching of all was the prince's description of how much he had dreaded the prospect of the Queen Mother's death.

'Somehow I never thought it would come,' he said. 'She seemed gloriously unstoppable.

'Oh, how I shall 行方不明になる her laugh and wonderful 知恵 born of so much experience and an innate sensitivity to life.'

'Above all she understood the British character and her heart belonged to this 古代の land and its 平等に indomitable and humorous inhabitants, whom she served with panache, style and unswerving dignity for very nearly 80 years.'

'Her 出発 has left an irreplaceable chasm in countless lives but, thank God, we are all the richer for the sheer joy of her presence and everything she stood for.
