Damilola: Betrayal of an innocent soul
by PAUL HARRIS, Daily Mail
Damilola Taylor's parents 直面するd the 荒涼とした prospect yesterday of never knowing why their son was killed.
They sat in silent 涙/ほころびs as two brothers who have 誇るd they were 'untouchable' were (疑いを)晴らすd by a 陪審/陪審員団 of 殺人ing the tenyearold in November 2000.
As the 十代の少年少女s strode from 法廷,裁判所, Richard and Gloria Taylor were left with nothing to 緩和する the sickening 見通し of their son's last moments - bleeding to death and 叫び声をあげるing for help until his 加害者s rammed a marble 負かす/撃墜する his throat to silence him.
Mr Taylor said 激しく last night: 'I am ashamed to say this is a society where a little boy cannot get 司法(官).
'We were 扱う/治療するd like 犯罪のs while the 被告s were 扱う/治療するd with kid gloves. The whole 裁判,公判 seemed 負わせるd in favour of the defence.'
The 無罪放免 of the 16-yearold brothers 誘発するd 即座の 批評 of the £ 2.8million police 操作/手術 and the 行為/行う of the £7million, three-month 裁判,公判.
Two other 被告s were (疑いを)晴らすd earlier this year.
Last night attention 焦点(を合わせる)d on a number of things the 陪審/陪審員団 was not 許すd to know.
The brothers had stood 裁判,公判 at the Old Bailey before - on sex attack 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金s - but were 解放する/自由なd on a 合法的な 専門的事項.
One made a tearful 自白 to stabbing Damilola to a social 労働者 at his young 違反者/犯罪者s' 会・原則, but the 裁判官 支配するd her 証拠 could not be 認める.
An omission meant that the 陪審/陪審員団 was never given a 地図/計画する which challenged 批判的な defence 主張s about where the brothers were when Damilola was stabbed.
The brothers - and the two 十代の少年少女s 初めは (刑事)被告 with them - have a string of 前科s, 範囲ing from affray to 押し込み強盗 and 強襲,強姦 on a police officer.
Police have compared the brothers, who are of Mediterranean origin, with the young Krays and 明らかにする/漏らすd a 地元の culture of 14-year-olds operating protec tion ゆすりs against 12-year-olds. '二塁打 their ages and we are talking East End 罪,犯罪 of the 1960s,' said 探偵,刑事 Superintendent Trevor Shepherd, who 長,率いるd the Damilola 調査.
Last night police said the 事例/患者 was still open. Scotland Yard said 'friendships and 忠義s' could change and 証拠 might still 現れる.
Defence solicitor Christopher Hartnell said the 判決 was the only result 'that truth and logic would 許す' and (刑事)被告 police of 選ぶing on 'the usual 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うs' にもかかわらず the 欠如(する) of 証拠.
The defence had (人命などを)奪う,主張するd Damilola was not attacked at all, that he fell and 負傷させるd himself on a broken 瓶/封じ込める.
They said he must have been sucking the marble 'like a 甘い' as he walked from a school computer class to his home in Peckham, South London. He bled to death in a stairwell just 100 yards from his door.
His family had come to Britain from Nigeria to 捜し出す 医療の 治療 for Damilola's sister.
Yesterday, as Mr and Mrs Taylor 苦しむd what must have been their darkest day since the 殺人 of their son, the two brothers were starting a family party.
Their sobs of 救済 at the 判決s quickly gave way to elation, with one shouting 'Summer's here!' against a background of 動きやすい phone calls from friends. Their mother - their father left when they were two - 宣言するd: 'My boys ain't no angels but they never killed no little boy.'
The 結果 horrified many people on the Peckham 広い地所 where vicious teenage ギャング(団)s have 課すd a 統治する of terror.
All four 十代の少年少女s 初めは 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金d with 殺人,大当り Damilola have now been (疑いを)晴らすd.
A 15-year-old 青年 and a 17-year-old were 解放(する)d earlier because of unreliable or insufficient 証拠. The 証言 of a 重要な 証言,証人/目撃する, a girl codenamed Bromley, was 支配するd out as unreliable.
For 合法的な 推論する/理由s, 非,不,無 of the 被告s can be 指名するd. But the two brothers and the 15-year-old had all been to the Old Bailey be fore, six months before Damilola died. They were の中で five boys (刑事)被告 of indecent 強襲,強姦 after an attack on two girls.
They were said to have followed this with a sickening (選挙などの)運動をする of 脅迫 and 乱用, 警告: 'They'll never get us. We're untouchable.'
The 事例/患者 was 最初 heard in a 青年 法廷,裁判所, but 治安判事s felt the attack was so serious that their 宣告,判決ing 力/強力にするs would be 不十分な if the boys were 設立する 有罪の.
It was referred to the Central 犯罪の 法廷,裁判所, but the ありふれた Serjeant of London, 裁判官 Neil Dennison, decided that two 12-year-old 被告s were too immature to understand the 訴訟/進行s and the 事例/患者 against all five had to be abandoned.
Now retired, the 72-year-old 裁判官 said last night he 'ばく然と' remembered the 事例/患者 but 解任するd it as 'a trivial 出来事/事件'.
解放する/自由な again, the brothers continued to 脅す and 脅迫してさせる the two girls and their families. One girl was so upset she took an overdose and was 急ぐd to hospital. The other family moved away.
On November 16, 2000 - いっそう少なく than a fortnight before Damilola was killed - the brothers were (刑事)被告 of (警察の)手入れ,急襲ing the flat of a boy they had 以前 いじめ(る)d. Again, his family had to 耐える a (選挙などの)運動をする of terror.
The brothers were 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金d with 押し込み強盗 and 脅迫してさせるing a 証言,証人/目撃する and sent for 裁判,公判 at Inner London 栄冠を与える 法廷,裁判所 in May 2001.
But Mr 司法(官) Wakefield ordered a not 有罪の 判決 to be returned on the 押し込み強盗 and said it would be an '乱用 of 過程' for the 脅迫 事例/患者 to continue in a 栄冠を与える 法廷,裁判所.
Police sources say that, 個々に, the two brothers do not stand out, but together they have an '驚くべき/特命の/臨時の dynamic'.
The Old Bailey heard that one is now the father of a baby born to a girl of 15, the third girl he has made 妊娠している.
Last night the family said they 計画(する) to 告訴する police through the 民事裁判所s, 主張するing wrongful 逮捕(する), 誤った 監禁,拘置 and malicious 起訴.
Their mother said: 'Someone has got to 支払う/賃金 for what they have done to my boys.' She said she would like to use the money to open a restaurant with them.
どこかよそで, the 口論する人 over the failed 起訴 was in 十分な swing. Police stood by their 決定/判定勝ち(する) to 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 the boys and the CPS 主張するd it was 権利 to bring the 事例/患者.
But London 市長 Ken Livingstone said: 'It needs to be asked how the CPS has 許すd such an important 事例/患者 to 落ちる apart in this way.
'I will be asking 主要都市の Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens about the 質 of 殺人 調査s.
'Whatever the 権利s and wrongs, Damilola's 殺し屋s are still 捕まらないで.'
Home 長官 David Blunkett said lessons needed to be learned, but 追加するd that stopping such 殺人,大当りs in the first place was 'the 問題/発行する of the day'.
Amazingly, in the 中央 of her family's agony, Gloria Taylor 明らかにする/漏らすd last night that she prays every day for her son's 殺し屋s. 'I pray for God to touch them,' she said.
