It has been 基準 practice for the last 20 years for officers to walk with a partner.
In an 演説(する)/住所 to 2,000 staff and officers, Sir Paul said: 'The public, 政治家,政治屋s, police 当局, everybody you speak to, cannot understand why police officers don't patrol on their own any more, and on occasions neither do I.'

'The way in which we engage with the public is hugely important. I want our public to feel that if there's uniform from the Met they are there because they want to engage them and make them feel safer.'
Although police numbers 全国的な have reached the 記録,記録的な/記録する level of 141,000, many people feel there are より小数の bobbies on the (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 than 30 years ago when the total number of police was closer to 100,000.
Around a half of the Met's 31,000 officers routinely patrol the streets and some officers, 含むing 訓練生s, will still patrol in pairs.
Officers in 返答 cars will continue to work in pairs as will 武装した officers.
David Ruffley, the 影をつくる/尾行する police 小型のs
ter, welcomed the idea.
'At a 一打/打撃 this simple, ありふれた sense 改革(する) can radically 増加する the number of police 明白な to the public,' he said.
