A multimillionaire 実業家 is 告訴するing a 高級な?West End bookies for not 保護するing him from his 賭事ing '中毒'.

再生利用するing 大君 Scott O'Brien, 54, （人命などを）奪う，主張するs he lost more than £100,000 whilst he was '賭事ing berserk' between September 2018 and March 2019.

He says he has been （麻薬）常用者d to the 'dark and destructive' habit of 賭事ing all his adult life, and was even driven to 試みる／企てる to take his own life by his problem.

Mr O'Brien today told a 裁判官 his habit went into overdrive after he sold his Essex-based paper 再生利用するing 商売／仕事 低俗雑誌 摩擦 for £9million in 2012 and he was so 'erratic' at one point that he stashed £1m in cash at the 底（に届く） of his wardrobe.

He is now 告訴するing '高級な' bookmakers 星／主役にする Sports after he spent over £400,000 at the company's 旗艦 Mayfair betting shop in London, の近くに to the Dorchester Hotel, while 支援 dogs and horses.

The 実業家 lost £48,859 on the bets but says that taking into account money he also blew on betting 終点s his losses run to more than £100,000.

告訴するing for his money 支援する, his lawyers say the company 違反d its 義務 to 行為／法令／行動する in line with its 'social 責任／義務 code 準備／条項s' and that some of his 賭事ing loses 'were 予定 to 星／主役にする Sports' 失敗 to 従う with the (code) applicable to its operating licence'.

He is also 告訴するing the company for 違反 of 契約.

But the bookmakers' lawyers are defending the （人命などを）奪う，主張する, 否定するing that he 明らかにする／漏らすd he had a problem and 主張するing 'there is no general 義務 of care on a bookmaker to 保護する a 賭事ing （麻薬）常用者 from the consequences of his 中毒'.

Mr O'Brien （人命などを）奪う，主張するs he told a member of staff at the 蓄える／店 that he was a 'compulsive gambler' and says the company should have taken steps to 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 him from their 蓄える／店 - or at least tried to 限界 his wagers over a six-month stretch between September 2018 and March 2019.

He says he wagered £419,252 during this period, incurring losses of £48,859, and in 新規加入 （人命などを）奪う，主張するs he was also losing large 量s of cash on betting 終点s in the 星／主役にする Sports shop.

His 賭事ing at 星／主役にする Sports reached a 最高潮 when he 火刑／賭けるd £111,945 on March 30, Central London 郡 法廷，裁判所 heard.

His betting was 'off the 規模' at the time and he was blowing cash at さまざまな other high street bookmakers, he says.

Mr O'Brien said he ended up 公表する／暴露するing his 中毒 to Gemma Mehmet - then a cashier at 星／主役にする Sports - who he happened to recognise as a parent from the same school his kids …に出席するd.

He told the 法廷，裁判所: 'I thought Gemma might say something. I asked her not to tell anyone that I had a bit of a problem with 賭事ing and she appeared understanding.

'I told Gemma I had tried committing 自殺 once and spent ten months in rehab 予定 to my 中毒 - and begged her not to tell my ex.'

Mr O'Brien, who went through rehab in 2002, 追加するd: 'I told her that I'd had serious problems in the past and it would create more serious problems if my ex-wife 設立する out.'

'On the contrary, the claimant portrayed himself as a successful 実業家 with a variety of 利益／興味s, who lived in Knightsbridge, had a driver, dressed 井戸／弁護士席 and moved in 豊富な social circles.'

Mr O'Brien was living the high life at the time, the 法廷，裁判所 heard, and his 指名する had been linked in newspaper gossip columns with Claire Caudwell, the former partner of 億万長者 Phones 4U 創立者 John Caudwell.

The former 再生利用するing 大君 was not a daily 訪問者 at the 星／主役にする Sports 蓄える／店, said Mr Gillespie, having …に出席するd it only 17 times over six months.

And until March 30 2019, 'his winnings 越えるd his losses', said the barrister.

Mr O'Brien however told the 裁判官: 'it was ありふれた knowledge の中で 星／主役にする staff that I had a 賭事ing problem'.

He said he ended up in 星／主役にする Sports because most other 地元の bookmakers '制限するd his bets' or 'didn't want my 商売／仕事 because I was so erratic'.

He had been a 'good 顧客' at 星／主役にする Sports, where he lost 'horrendous 量s of money', （人命などを）奪う，主張するd Mr O'Brien, 追加するing: 'it was very 平易な for me to 賭事 in 星／主役にする with no questions asked'.

He 受託するd that he did not ask 星／主役にする Sports staff to 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 him from the betting shop to 妨げる him 賭事ing, but explained: 'I'm a compulsive gambler and so I didn't want to be 除外するd'.

'I've 賭事d all my life and it's stripped me 明らかにする. I don't even like 賭事ing, but it's just something I can't 支配（する）／統制する.'

He said his 賭事ing fever was such that he once lost £836,000 in one night at a casino, only to 勝利，勝つ it all 支援する during a 'purple patch'.

But Mr Gillespie said his （弁護士の）依頼人s had done their 最大の to 確実にする responsible 賭事ing in their shop, although 追加するing 'there is no general 義務 of care on a bookmaker to 保護する a 賭事ing （麻薬）常用者 from the consequences of his 中毒'.
