Today programme’s 失業 bank 労働者 ‘ineligible for help’ because he lives in a nice middle-class house

An 失業した bank 労働者 who was 約束d help with finding a new 職業 after he appeared on 無線で通信する 4’s Today programme has （人命などを）奪う，主張するd he was 捨てるd by a 政府-支援するd 新規採用 機関 because the area where he lives is too middle-class.

Alan South was made redundant 18 months ago after a 30-year career in the City as an 行政官／管理者 in banks and stockbroking 会社／堅いs.

His 苦境 （機の）カム to 国家の prominence after he agreed to let the BBC 跡をつける his 職業-追跡（する）ing 進歩 for a 一連の features on the 旗艦 breakfast show about people who lost their 職業s in the 後退，不況.

On last Tuesday’s 版 of the programme he （刑事）被告 Working Links, a company that is paid millions of 続けざまに猛撃するs by the Department for Work and 年金s to find placements for the long-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 失業した, of doing ‘絶対 nothing’ to help him.

The 50-year-old 離婚, who has two teenage daughters, believes Working Links lost 利益／興味 in him after discovering that he lived in a 比較して 繁栄する part of North London, had no history of alcohol or 麻薬 乱用 and had never been out of work before.

After Working Links made its approach in April ? through a PR company ? Mr South was 招待するd to a 会合 with three Working Links career 助言者s.

Mr South told The Mail on Sunday last night that he left the 会合 feeling 大いに encouraged.

He said: ‘They said they would market me as “移転-両立できる” so that I could work in other 産業s, 含むing the public 部門. I was やめる pumped up about it because this was just the sort of 上げる I was looking for.

‘They were 説 all the 権利 things and I was pretty sure I’d be 支援する in work in a few weeks. Working Links were very keen to 促進する their services but I think all they were looking for was a bit of 解放する／自由な publicity because it all （機の）カム to nothing.

‘They showed me a 圧力（をかける） 解放（する） about a 事業／計画（する） they’d worked on in Glasgow 伴う／関わるing a group of 失業した people with alcohol and 麻薬 problems. I got the impression that it was these 肉親，親類d of people they were 的ing.’

Mr South, whose last 職業 was as 操作／手術s 経営者／支配人 at the London office of a French bank, （人命などを）奪う，主張するs he heard nothing from the 新規採用 機関 for more than a month.

With no 職業 申し込む／申し出s coming through, he decided to 登録（する） with Working Links through normal channels by 調印 on at his 地元の Jobcentre.

When he gave the Jobcentre 助言者 his 演説（する）／住所, however, he received another disappointing rebuff.

Mr South said: ‘He said Working Links wouldn’t be able to do anything for me because the part of Enfield where I live hadn’t been 指定するd an area of special 経済的な need by the 政府.

‘It’s true it’s a pleasant middle-class area but I don’t think these things should be decided by postcode. I qualify as long-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 失業した because I’ve been out of work for more than a year, but the system doesn’t seem geared up to help professional people like me.’

Working Links is one of several 新規採用 会社／堅いs 存在 paid by the 政府 to find 職業s for the long-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 失業した.

Last year, it made an operating 利益（をあげる） of £1.3million and turnover rose by 11 per cent to £86million.

Company accounts show that the highest-paid director ? thought to be managing director Breege Burke ? is on an 年次の salary of £222,000.

Last night the 機関, which is one-third 政府-owned, 堅固に 否定するd letting Mr South 負かす／撃墜する.

A 広報担当者 said: ‘When we approached the BBC, we honestly thought we could help Alan find a 職業. We would 論争 any suggestion that, having said we could help him, we left him in the lurch. We followed the 会合 up with emails and phone calls.

‘The problem with where he lives is that the Jobcentre he is 登録（する）d with 落ちるs outside the geographic remit of our 雇用-zone 契約 with the 政府.

We have 申し込む／申し出d Alan as much support as we can and given him advice on how to develop his CV.’

Over the past 12 months, the company （人命などを）奪う，主張するs to have helped 16,700 people 支援する into work, a seven per cent 増加する on the 人物／姿／数字 for 2007-08.
