'Wolfman' gives his account of the night Goldsmith heiress died - and lays 非難する on 'happy pills' taken by millions of NHS 患者s

Wolfe, who had known Ms Whitehead for four years, said: ‘Valium was her thing. That was, like, her 毒（薬）. She told me it kept her up, happy and working ? and she had been up, happy and working.

‘When I tried to wake her, I think there were 調印するs that she had been sick. When I moved her 長，率いる 支援する some sick （機の）カム out of her mouth. I think she had choked on her vomit.

'That is the thing about Valium. It is does not mix with drink and she was drinking. And usually if you are sick, you wake up, but Valium won’t let you wake up.

‘And if you drink, you forget how many of the pills you have taken. It is a 悪意のある 麻薬, an evil 麻薬. I didn’t see her take the pills but I think she must have had her own 私的な stash.’

Ms Whitehead, who had been working on a 調書をとる／予約する and film on the 側近 surrounding Doherty, was discovered dead in her bed at 8pm last Sunday by Wolfe, a いつか music writer for Kate Moss’s former boyfriend.

Paramedics told him Ms Whitehead had been dead for some hours. The police have 述べるd her death in the flat in Hackney where Wolfe was staying as 非，不，無-怪しげな.

Few, though, would have 予報するd that 個人として educated Ms Whitehead, granddaughter of Teddy Goldsmith, the 創立者 of The Ecologist magazine, and the cousin of 見込みのある Tory MP Zac and his socialite sister Jemima, would see out her final days in such an insalubrious setting.

Nor that the last seven days of her 特権d life would be spent with Wolfe ? in his own words ‘a horrible 割れ目 and smack 長，率いる’ ? firstly 穴を開けるd up in her home, a barn 転換 大（公）使館員d to her mother Dido’s cottage in Gloucester; and then in the ground-床に打ち倒す flat used as a bolthole by Wolfe.?

The 所有物／資産／財産 is owned by Gill Samworth, dubbed a Doherty ‘最高の-fan’, who has become a surrogate mother to the singer and his hangers-on.

Last night Wolfe, 述べるd as a ‘pied piper’ 人物／姿／数字 in the 麻薬 scene around Doherty, 明らかにする／漏らすd the events that led to the couple coming together for Ms Whitehead’s final days.

Speaking 率直に, just hours after his second interview with the police, he 認める smoking ヘロイン throughout most of the seven days and nights he spent with Ms Whitehead, 含むing her final night.

But he （人命などを）奪う，主張するd she had joined him in the days 主要な up to her death not to 消費する 麻薬s, but to interview and photograph him as part of her work, something 大部分は 奮起させるd by her father Peter, who 文書d the いわゆる counterculture in London and New York in the Sixties.

Wolfe 認める: ‘Maybe I had seen her take ヘロイン some two years ago. But not in this period.’

He 追加するd: ‘She talked about her father やめる a bit. She looked up to him a lot and they were very の近くに. It was why she did the work she did. She was driven, on a 使節団. She was fascinated by it and was so 激しい about her work.’

Ms Whitehead, who used the （一定の）期間ing Robyn as an affectation, had first come to Wolfe’s attention four years ago when she appeared at the flat where she later died. She was with Doherty, who had just 成し遂げるd a gig.

She went on to help with a 文書の about the singer, called The Road To Albion, and 時代遅れの a 経営者／支配人 of Wolfe’s called Jake Foir for a year up until 早期に last January.

But it appears Doherty was her main 利益／興味 (she was 令状ing a 調書をとる／予約する called The 儀式 To Romance about his scene) and Wolfe 収容する／認めるs that it was only in the last week of her life that he and Ms Whitehead enjoyed an ‘激しい, special but 非，不，無-性の’ time together.

He said: ‘I was in rehab in November when she texted me asking where I was and what I was doing. She 手配中の，お尋ね者 to 会合，会う up because she had some ideas for her new 調書をとる／予約する. When I got the text I smiled to myself and said, “Ah, コマドリ.”

‘After I left rehab, though, I lapsed. She texted me again in the New Year and asked whether I could 会合，会う up.

‘I said I was having some problems but she texted 支援する, “Come and stay with me. You can relax there, I can look after you. We can do some work. But you can get away from all the 誘惑s.” So I did.’

He said that Jake Foir 選ぶd him up on Monday, January 18, and dropped him off at Ms Whitehead’s Gloucester home. It was the start of a fateful week.

Wolfe, 41, 収容する／認めるs the couple’s activities in the one-bedroom barn 転換 in which they stayed for four days have since become of 利益／興味 to police.

He said: ‘I can’t say I was an angel there. The police have a camera of hers and I was smoking ヘロイン. The police said they knew I had been taking 麻薬s around コマドリ, and I had to 収容する／認める that.

‘But apart from that first day, I was clean for that four-day period. And コマドリ didn’t take anything. We watched films and took photos. And we discussed this 調書をとる／予約する she made and she showed me the （映画の）フィート数 that she had. I was really flattered that she had taken the trouble, that she had this 利益／興味 in me.’

Wolfe ? who was born Peter Randall but 可決する・採択するd the surname Wolfe 20 years ago in 尊敬の印 to a scene について言及するing Desmond Wolfe from 教団 film Withnail & I ? 収容する／認めるs that at this 行う／開催する／段階 he had ‘fallen for’ his young friend.

'I did, I fell pretty hard. But I have seen people 落ちる for her and they were dropped like a hot potato and that wasn’t going to happen to me.

‘We would have a cuddle, but that was it. It was intimate and really special but I wasn’t going to 廃虚 our 関係 by doing something.

‘We did do some mock-up wedding pictures, her in a wedding dress and me in a 控訴. It was just one of her crazy ideas, for fun. I know her father wants those pictures now ??he won’t like any suggestion of that sort of link to me.’

They returned to London on Thursday, January 21, 大部分は, Wolfe said, to 準備する for the 記録，記録的な／記録するing of a 選び出す／独身 he had written tell ingly する権利を与えるd 孤立した And Shaken. Ms Whitehead had been 予定 to film the 記録，記録的な／記録するing 開会／開廷／会期.

However, arriving on the train around 8pm, Wolfe, whose habit once 要求するd him to 注入する ヘロイン every four hours just to 突き破る off 撤退, was 苦しむing 不正に from three days without the 麻薬.

He said: ‘I could hardly walk when I got off the train. Jake 選ぶd us up ? I think he is still in love with コマドリ ? and took us to the flat.’

Wolfe, whose 直面する 耐えるs 証言，証人／目撃する to his 戦う／戦い with 麻薬s, 収容する／認めるs he did not want Ms Whitehead to stay in the flat ? 広範囲にわたって known as ‘the Wolfe Den’; a place at times made uninhabitable because of the 26 cats living there on-and-off, と一緒に Gill Samworth and those she takes in.

He said: ‘I didn’t really want her to stay there. I don’t think she 手配中の，お尋ね者 to stay there, because there was a conversation with Jake about it.

‘In the end, it didn’t really bother her. But it is not a very nice place. It has been 廃虚d with cats and things. It is not a place for a young girl. But Gill had made it nice for her, had made a clean bed for her and cleaned up for her. She had her own room.’

Wolfe 収容する／認めるs that he felt 軍隊d to smoke ヘロイン on Thursday night ? and he did it in 前線 of Ms Whitehead.

‘I had been up at her place and had been three days clean,’ he said. ‘I was in a bit of a 明言する／公表する. I was 身を引くing. She helped a lot. When you have got someone making tea and food it is really important. I could hardly move.

‘She didn’t take anything. She was 存在 冷静な／正味の. We were both really tired and we put some films on.

‘I did some playing of the guitar and she filmed. Then we watched the animated film Ratatouille in her bed because what we were working on was やめる dark. And she downloaded Finding Nemo for me. And we watched that and fell asleep. It was probably four in the morning.’

Perhaps tellingly, Wolfe and Ms Whitehead slept in until about 3pm on the Friday. N ot that Wolfe would やむを得ず have stepped in to save Ms Whitehead from herself had he known she was taking pills.

‘I would have probably had some, yeah,’ he 認める.

He 追加するd: ‘I was still feeling rough so I smoked again later on Friday. On Thursday night it had been in 前線 of コマドリ but on Friday night she was fiddling about upstairs and I went downstairs to the bathroom and had a quick smoke and that was it.

‘I bought it off the street corner 近づく the flat, a £10 捕らえる、獲得する. It was about ten o’clock when I smoked it, nothing 激しい and I was keeping it to myself, doing it in the bathroom.

‘We again just watched films, 安全な Men with Sam Rockwell was one. We ate some pizza or something and it was another late night. But again, I didn’t see コマドリ take any 麻薬s.’

Once again it was a late night for the pair on the Friday but they were not given the 適切な時期 for a 嘘（をつく）-in on the Saturday because of an 早期に visit from Doherty and his friend Alan Wass, former lead singer and guitarist in a 禁止（する）d called Lefthand who now plays with blues 激しく揺する 禁止（する）d The Lipstick Melodies.

‘They arrived at 9.30am,’ Wolfe said. ‘I was like, “Oh no.” He has got too much oomph. I think they had just arrived that morning from Dublin. Pete was jumping on me, and tickling me 説 “tickle town, tickle town”.

But I think コマドリ was やめる pleased to see him. There was never anything romantic between them, but I think Pete had probably fallen for her too at some 行う／開催する／段階.

‘Anyway, Peter was there for two hours. コマドリ filmed him singing outside on the 最高の，を越す balcony. A song from the new album called Salome.

‘And then he was gone. He didn’t take 麻薬s and certainly didn’t leave any. He is too tight to leave 麻薬s. If he had any he would do them himself. He wouldn’t 株 麻薬s.’

Wolfe and Ms Whitehead were then 予定 to go to the 前提s studio on Hackney Road for the 記録，記録的な／記録するing 開会／開廷／会期. The 計画（する） was for her to go ba ck home as soon as the music was done.

But Wolfe received a call to say the studio engineer had not arrived and the 調書をとる／予約するing would need to be 配列し直すd for Monday.

Wolfe 収容する／認めるs that once again he 設立する solace in smoking ヘロイン. But he 主張するs Ms Whitehead did not take 麻薬s in 前線 of him.

Instead, he says, they ate an Indian takeaway and watched, as in the previous days, a 一連の films ? this time Master And 指揮官 starring Russell Crowe, Moon, with Kevin Spacey, and a DVD of the BBC2 series Rome.

Ms Whitehead also filmed Wolfe reading out some of his poetry. He said: ‘I wrote a 調書をとる／予約する of poetry that had been published and I have got another couple of 調書をとる／予約するs that are going to be published. We had やめる an 激しい 開会／開廷／会期 where she filmed me reading the poetry.

‘But I got something in the late afternoon, I smoked it before I went to bed, so that I wouldn’t be ill. I 手配中の，お尋ね者 to get this 記録，記録的な／記録するing 開会／開廷／会期 done. I am going to take the 麻薬 until I do this.

‘Again, I smoked it in the bathroom, trying to keep it to myself. We talked about films. She 手配中の，お尋ね者 to get into 事実上の／代理 and so do I. We said we would be the Mr and Mrs of Hollywood.

‘She 小衝突d her teeth, got into bed, we had a 広大な／多数の／重要な 雑談（する） and fell asleep, probably 3am or something like that. She had been drinking, we both were. Red ワイン. But, honestly, not to 超過.’

Wolfe woke up at 4pm the next day, Sunday. Ms Whitehead appeared to be still asleep, 残り／休憩（する）ing her 長，率いる on her 手渡すs, lying on her 権利 味方する.

Wolfe said: ‘I was 一打／打撃ing her hair to gently try to wake her up. I didn’t want to shock her. And she felt sort of warm. And I don’t think there was anything wrong. I woke up やめる ill.

I left her sleeping there. I though she had probably had some Valium because she was having a long sleep. I knew she liked it.

‘I got up and had a smoke to make myself 井戸／弁護士席. I went up a couple of times to wake her because I thought i t would be a nice day together. Just 存在 with her was really nice. But it got やめる late. It （機の）カム 近づく to 8pm and I thought, I have to wake her up.

‘And I went and I noticed that she hadn’t moved. I felt her 手渡すs and they were 冷淡な. My heart started （警官の）巡回区域，受持ち区域ing quickly. I was terrified. I touched the 支援する of her 長，率いる and saw something was wrong. The world just 始める，決める on 解雇する／砲火／射撃. I went to pull her 支援する but she was stiff.

‘And then I just lost it. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know what to do. I was 叫び声をあげるing her 指名する. I got her out of bed, 選ぶd her up, slapped her around the 直面する, called the 救急車. Did everything I could. But...’

The paramedics arrived, Wolfe, believes within four minutes of the 999 call. But they told him she had been dead for several hours. Four police officers arrived and took a 証言，証人／目撃する 声明 from Wolfe and Gill Samworth.

Then, while the officers were still in the flat, waiting for the undertaker to take away his dead friend, Wolfe fell asleep.

He said: ‘I was exhausted or traumatised. So I just fell asleep. My 団体／死体 just couldn’t 対処する with it.’

He 収容する／認めるs that the days since her death have been a blur. Doherty visited for an hour on Monday to 申し込む／申し出 his 弔慰s and the police rang Wolfe to arrange a second interview which took place on Friday.

They questioned him about a 不平等 between the time at which he had said Doherty visited the flat on Saturday and the 声明s made by 無名の others.

Wolfe 認める to the officers that he had made a mistake in 最初 believing Doherty had been with the couple on the evening before Ms Whitehead’s death. In fact, it was in the morning.

They also asked him about （映画の）フィート数 she had taken showing him smoking ヘロイン earlier in the week ? and the 発見 of needles in the flat.

He said: ‘They asked whether they were 地雷 and I had to say yes. But they are old. They checked me and her for 注射s and 設立する nothi ng.

‘I told the officer interviewing me that コマドリ should have left on Saturday. That this would not have happened if she had. He told me, “Hindsight is a wonderful thing.”’

Shocking 遺産／遺物 of Mother's helper

It's known as Mother’s Little Helper and The Rolling 石／投石するs even wrote a song about it.

But Valium, 開始する，打ち上げるd in 1963, also became 悪名高い for anaesthetising a 世代 of housewives.

It was developed by 化学者／薬剤師 Leo Sternbach for 製薬の company Hoffman-La Roche.

It was the first in a new 世代 of tranquillisers which were considered safer and more 効果的な than the 代案／選択肢s of opiates and alcohol to 扱う／治療する 苦悩 disorders.

It 達成するd 早い success and became one of the world’s most 定める／命ずるd 麻薬s between 1969 and 1982. At its 頂点（に達する） during 1978, around 2.8billion of the yellow pills stamped with the trademark ‘V’ were sold. Most 使用者s were women.

While its 指名する was derived from the Latin ‘valeo’, which means ‘to be strong’, its 愛称 （機の）カム from the 肩書を与える of the 1966 石／投石するs’ song about an over-強調する／ストレスd housewife who ‘goes running for the 避難所 of a Mother’s Little Helper’.

However, while its 発明 was celebrated, it also had 味方する-影響s and led to a culture of dependency on prescription 麻薬s.

It was 中毒の and long-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 use became linked with 不景気, forgetfulness and agoraphobia. Careless over-定める／命ずるing by GPs led to some exper ts commenting that it was as difficult to come off Valium as it was to come off ヘロイン.

Comedian Freddie Starr 非難するd the pills for turning him into a ‘walking zombie’ in the Eighties after he took them to 対処する with the break-up of his marriage.

But the most 悪名高い （麻薬）常用者 was John Hinckley, who 発射 and 負傷させるd 大統領 Ronald Reagan. Psychiatrists at his 裁判，公判 said Valium could have ‘impaired his 支配（する）／統制する’.

It is still 定める／命ずるd today by GPs for alcohol 撤退 and 苦悩 but the brand 指名する is 消滅した／死んだ and it is now know by its generic 指名する, diazepam.

There is still a 抱擁する 需要・要求する for the 麻薬 and it is ますます 貿易（する）d 不法に online. It is popular for recreational use, 特に to 緩和する 撤退 from other 麻薬s such as ヘロイン and Ecstasy.

In 2008, UK 麻薬s charity DrugScope said the pills were 存在 used as a cheap 代案／選択肢 to ヘロイン の中で young people.

On the 黒人／ボイコット market, the pills, known as ‘vallies’ or ‘blues’, can sell for as little as £1 each.

The charity has also 警告するd that taking alcohol and diazepam together can lead to 偶発の overdose.
