Driverless cars could be 許すd on Britain's roads and motorways 'as 早期に as 2026' the 輸送(する) 長官 has 明らかにする/漏らすd.

He said: 'The 法律制定 is going through 議会 at the moment so hopefully we'll get that through 議会 by the end of 2024.

'Probably by as 早期に as 2026, people will start seeing some elements of these cars that have 十分な self-運動ing 能力s 存在 rolled out.

'We already know the 科学(工学)技術 作品. You can see t he 科学(工学)技術 存在 rolled out with a safety driver in place.

'I've seen the 科学(工学)技術 存在 used in California for example, without a safety driver, so in 十分な, 自治権のある 方式.

'This 科学(工学)技術 存在するs, it 作品 and what we're doing is putting in place the proper 法律制定 so that people can have 十分な 信用/信任 in the safety of this 科学(工学)技術, which I think is one of the important things we've got to do.'

Asked if people will be able to travel in self-運動ing 乗り物s 'with your 手渡すs off the wheel, doing your emails' in 2026, Mr Harper replied: 'Yes, and I think that's when companies are 推定する/予想するing - in 2026, during that year - that we'll start seeing this 科学(工学)技術 rolled out.'

He said: 'I think it will 現実に 改善する road safety.

'We already have a very good road safety 記録,記録的な/記録する in Britain but there are still several thousand people a year killed on our roads.

'That could be 改善するd.

'It's a big 経済的な 適切な時期 for Britain to get what will be a big 全世界の 株 of market.

'The final thing is, there are a lot of people who 現在/一般に don't have the 適切な時期 to get the freedom that many of us drivers take for 認めるd.

'For example, there are people who have disabilities, people with learning disabilities, who don't have the same freedom that 運動ing brings the 残り/休憩(する) of us.

'This 潜在的に opens up a whole new world for personal freedom, getting to work, having the ability to not have to rely on other people.'

Fully-自動化するd 乗り物s are not 許すd on UK roads, although they have been in use for a number of years in parts of the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs and 中国.

Cars that have 自動化するd driver 補助装置 features, such as 歩行者 (犯罪,病気などの)発見/avoidance and 小道/航路 出発 警告/是正 are 利用できる in Britain.

Andy Palmer, former boss at Nissan and Aston ツバメ, said it was important to 公式文書,認める that driverless 乗り物s today still 要求する those behind the wheel to keep their 注目する,もくろむs on the road.

'But of course when you do that you have all sorts of questions that need to be answered ーに関して/ーの点でs of who's responsible if the computer's 運動ing your car.

Speaking on the same programme, former 最高の,を越す Gear host James May, said he felt there was a difference between what the public 推定する/予想するs when they hear about driverless cars and what the reality is.

'I think the myth of the driverless car has got a bit out of 支配(する)/統制する,' he said.?

'In the popular imagination this 全く robotic 自治権のある car that you can send off by itself to collect your wayward children from the pub is just around the corner, and I don't 現実に believe it is. I think that is a very long way off.

'But at the same time (空)自動操縦装置 systems, 補助装置d 運動ing, is very much with us so it's important to make the distinction I think.'
