The 貿易(する)ing 床に打ち倒す at PVM: Steve Perkins lost the company £6million

A rogue 仲買人 who blew £345million on seven million バーレル/樽s of oil while drunkenly using his home computer has been 罰金d £72,000.

Steve Perkins sat up all night drinking at his redbrick 半分, and clicked 'buy' on the 貿易(する) while in an 'alcohol-induced 灯火管制/停電'.

The 34-year-old 仲買人 from Essex sent 全世界の oil prices ロケット/急騰するing and 原因(となる)d 大混乱 in the markets after a boozy ゴルフ 週末.

When he awoke with a hangover, he tried to pretend nothing had happened, sending his boss a text message asking for the day off because a 親族 was 'unwell'.

Yesterday he was banned from the City and ordered to 支払う/賃金 the £72,000 罰金 in 月毎の instalments over three years by the 財政上の ServicesAuthority 監視者.

Until recently, Mr Perkins lived in a £340,000 two-bedroom house in Brentwood. But last night a woman there 辞退するd to comment as she wheeled a pushchair, 説: 'He has gone away.'

A 隣人 (人命などを)奪う,主張するd Mr Perkins had gone to work in Switzerland.

The astonishing episode happened a year ago, when City 銀行業者s were at the 頂点(に達する) of their unpopularity for 無謀な and greedy behaviour that was 非難するd for the 経済的な 危機.

Mr Perkins, who worked for City 仲買人s PVM Oil, had gone on a ゴルフing 週末 organised by the 会社/堅い.

He then took the Monday off work and continued to binge drink from midday onwards. By the evening, Mr Perkins had made his first (製品,工事材料の)一回分 of unauthorised 貿易(する)s.

But it was in the 早期に hours of the next day - June 30 last year - that the serious 損失 was done.

Nick Leeson

Echoes of 1995: Steve Perkins' drunken 貿易(する)s are reminiscent of Nick Leeson's みごたえのある unauthorised 活動/戦闘s that killed off Barings Bank

Mr Perkins has no real recollection, but in his アル中患者 煙霧 he went on a spending spree on his computer, which was remotely logged in to his company's markets 貿易(する)ing system in the City.

In his stupor, he casually notched up thousands of 貿易(する)s 価値(がある) a total of $520million (£345million).

He drunkenly bought a 逮捕する 7.13million バーレル/樽s of oil during the typically 静かな 夜通し period, and at times was 現実に 責任がある 69 per cent of the 全体にわたる 容積/容量 of Brent 天然のまま 存在 貿易(する)d globally.

His 活動/戦闘s sent prices 殺到するing by more than $1.50 to $73.50 (£48.75) for a バーレル/樽 of Brent 天然のまま oil - the highest it had been for eight months.

The 取引,協定s ended up costing his company £6million and 潜在的に cost companies 世界的な more than £100million.

Yesterday the FSA banned him from working in the City for a 最小限 of five years and said he was 'not a fit and proper person' to work in the 産業 予定 to his alcoholism.

The FSA said: 'As a direct result of Perkins' 貿易(する)ing, the price of Brent 増加するd 意味ありげに.

'Perkins' 貿易(する)ing manipulated the market in Brent by giving a 誤った and 誤って導くing impression as to the 供給(する), 需要・要求する and price of Brent - and 原因(となる)d the price of Brent to 増加する to an 異常な and 人工的な level.

It6 said the 仲買人 had made 事柄s worse the に引き続いて day by lying to his bosses.

He finally 認める what he had done later, when his 貿易(する)ing 接近 was 一時停止するd and the company sold off the 残り/休憩(する) of the oil, raking 支援する all but £6million.

The FSA said: 'Perkins' 貿易(する)ing seems to have been a consequence of 極端に 激しい drinking resulting from alcoholism, which he now 認めるs.'

It 追加するd Mr Perkins - who was 解雇(する)d - has since joined an アル中患者s' rehabilitation programme.

The FSA made no 批評 of PVM in its 報告(する)/憶測 but said Mr Perkins '提起する/ポーズをとるs an extreme 危険 to the market when drunk'.

The City regulator said the £72,000 罰金 would have been £150,000 but for the '財政上の hardship' this would 原因(となる) him.

A 広報担当者 for his solicitor 拒絶する/低下するd to comment, while a PVM 広報担当者 said only: 'We 公式文書,認める this morning's 声明 ... and that this 事柄 is now fully cl osed.'

The unauthorised 取引,協定 echoes that of Singapore-based 仲買人 Nick Leeson, who in 1995 brought 負かす/撃墜する the British Barings Bank after running up losses of £862million 貿易(する)ing in derivatives.
