UK 'goes 大陸の' for its cheese: How Brits are turning to gourmet and specialty cheeses from Europe - with sales of 3倍になる Cr?me Brie nearly 二塁打 in a year while 需要・要求する for Morbier and Comt? also 急に上がるs

British food has long had a 評判 overseas for 存在 bland or stodgy - but it appears that our palate is becoming more sophisticated.

Tesco, the UK's biggest supermarket, has 報告(する)/憶測d a 抱擁する spike in the 需要・要求する for gourmet cheeses such as?Comt?, Ossau-Iraty, Morbier and Chaource.

The supermarket 巨大(な) says its Tesco Finest 製品s have grown in 人気, with '大陸の' cheese sales growing the most.

But the 需要・要求する for gourmet and specialty cheeses does not stop there. Vintage Gouda and St F?licien sales are up by more than 50 per cent, while 需要・要求する for?Chaource and Comt? is up by more than 40 per cent.

Tesco says the 願望(する) for 賞与金 cheeses are not at the expense of 伝統的な British cheeses, 含むing cheddar and Stilton, but 簡単に shows 顧客s are 選ぶing for more sophisticated tastes to 追加する to their cheese boards.

Charlotte Gamlick, a cheese 買い手 at Tesco, explained: 'This is a 傾向 we first noticed during lockdown as people weren't able to go out to restaurants they were 貿易(する)ing up to fancier cheeses when shopping.

'But that 傾向 has become even more pronounced now during harder times with people entertaining more at home and that has led to shoppers 扱う/治療するing themselves to new cheeses 同様に as 選ぶing up their classic British favourites like Cheddar and Stilton.

'While the likes of Brie, Camembert, Emmental, Gruy?re and Gouda are all 設立するd 最高の,を越す 販売人s and have graced the cheeseboards of UK cheese connoisseurs for many years, it's lesser known varieties such as Chaource, Morbier, St. Felicien and Ossau-Oraty which are starting to 勝利,勝つ new fans in the UK.'

一方/合間 Jason Hinds, of cheese retailer Neal's Yard 酪農場, said there has been a 'sea change' in the sales of cheese.

He told The Times it was 'very encouraging' to see the growth of specialty cheeses and believes that TV cooking shows may have 与える/捧げるd to changing Brits' 態度s to foods such as cheese.

As Tesco 報告(する)/憶測s 増加するd sales of 大陸の cheeses, Europeans are also indulging in more British cheeses.

Britain has also made its 示す on the French cheese market, accounting for nearly five per cent of all cheese 輸入するs to the country.

John Farrand, managing director of the Guild of 罰金 Food, told The Times that British cheesemaking is in 'rude health'.

But while Brits may be looking at more 賞与金 選択s, a bizarre TikTok 傾向 has driven a resurgence in cottage cheese.

The once popular 'diet food' in the 1970s has made a 復帰 in the UK, 儀礼 of Gen Z.
