調査(する) after catapult death

調査s were continuing today into the death of an Oxford University student who died after taking part in a human catapult stunt.

Dino Yankov was killed after he was catapulted through the 空気/公表する and 行方不明になるd his 上陸 at the Middlemoor Water Park in Woolavington 近づく Bridgwater, Somerset on Sunday.

The first-year biochemistry student, a Bulgarian 国家の, was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol where he died at 7.30pm.

He was 熟考する/考慮するing at Oxford's Wadham College and was part of the Oxford Stunt Factory, which is not an 公式の/役人 university club.

尊敬の印s were paid to the 19-year-old by the Oxford Stunt Factory on its website.

"It is with deepest 悔いる that we 確認する the death of Dino Yankov on Sunday. This 悲劇の 事故 occurred while he was visiting a human catapult event in Somerset," the dedication read.

"Dino joined the Oxford Stunt Factory at the beginning of 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 and had already made many friends within the club. We are all 全く 荒廃させるd.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends both here in Oxford and at home in Bulgaria.

David Boston of The Oxford Stunt Factory said the club was "荒廃させるd" by the 事故 which (人命などを)奪う,主張するd the life of one of its "勇敢に立ち向かう and intelligent" members.

"It had been 実験(する)d. All the safety checks and 実験(する) 負わせるs had been done to 裁判官 distances and then this happened.

"We are beside ourselves at the moment and don't know what to say or do.

"He was a fantastic guy and had been a member since the start of t his academic year. He had done a lot of jumps for charity, was friendly, intelligent and as 勇敢に立ち向かう as a bull."

David Aitkenhead, who 始める,決める up the human catapult activity held on disused land by the park a year ago, said he and his partner were "gutted" by the 事故 and had no 手がかり(を与える)s at this 行う/開催する/段階 as to what went wrong.

The catapult, a replica of a 中世 trebuchet, threw the student in a curving arc but an error occurred and he fell short of the safety 逮捕する.

Mr Aitkenhead said Mr Yankov was the sixth person to do a jump that day, the other jumps had gone to 計画(する) and all the 実験(する)s, 含むing 重さを計るing each person to calibrate the 機械/機構, had been done.

The human catapult, which has been used by around 50 people over the year, is now out of use while the 調査 takes place and Mr Aitkenhead said he may never use the 機械/機構 again.

The park is の近くにd for the winter and it is the land behind it that was used for the event which was run 独立して by Mr Aitkenhead and a partner.

He said an 事故 had happened on a previous machine two years ago when his 商売/仕事 partner's girlfriend was left with serious hip and ankle 傷害s after bouncing from the safety 逮捕する.

HSE 視察官s are to interview all the parties 伴う/関わるd, 診察する the 器具/備品 and scrutinise safety 手続きs over the coming months.

If the owners of the catapult were 設立する to have 違反d the 法律制定 they could 直面する a 犯罪の 起訴, the HSE said.
