調査(する) after Concorde rudder 落ちるs off during flight
British 航空路s and 空気/公表する 事故 捜査官/調査官s were today looking into an 出来事/事件 in which part of the rudder fell off a Concorde on a flight from London to New York.
It was the fifth time since 1989 in which a BA Concorde has experienced rudder problems.
The 計画(する) in the 最新の 出来事/事件, last Wednesday, with 96 乗客s and nine 乗組員 船内に, landed 安全に at New York.
専門家s today said that that the 計画(する) was 完全に controllable, にもかかわらず the loss of the part.
But 空気/公表する 事故s 調査 支店 公式の/役人s could call for safety modifications once their 調査 into the 出来事/事件 is 結論するd.
BA said today that after the 計画(する) had landed in New York, an 査察 設立する part of the lower of four rudders on the tail fin was 行方不明の.
A BA spokeswoman went on: "A small part of one of the lower rudders became detached during the flight. The 航空機 flew 安全に throughout the flight and landed 安全に.
"The 行方不明の part did not 影響する/感情 the safety of the 航空機 and at no 行う/開催する/段階 during the flight were the 乗客s or 航空機 in any danger."
The first rudder problem to a BA Concorde was in 1989, and the most 最近の before that of last week was in October 1998.
Former Concorde 操縦する Jock Lowe, who had 25 years' experience with the supersonic 航空機, said today the 計画(する) could 飛行機で行く "very
首尾よく" with just one rudder surface.
He 追加するd that rudders were usually not needed at all in normal circumstances.
Mr Lowe went on: "It only comes into use for steering during take-off and if there is an engine 失敗 or if there is a cross-勝利,勝つd, so for most flights it is not needed at all."
The rudder of a Concorde, he said, was made of a "honeycomb 構成要素" which was 分裂(する) into two large surfaces and glued on to the 航空機.
He 追加するd: "The aeroplane could 飛行機で行く very 首尾よく with just one rudder surface. The two big surfaces are only needed if you have a 同時の 二塁打 en gine 失敗 at 60,000ft, and that's pretty ありそうもない."
Although the rudder 伴う/関わるd in last Wednesday's 出来事/事件 was "やめる new", there was always the 可能性 of some faults, he said.
ーに関して/ーの点でs of aerodynamics and 飛行機で行くing the 航空機, however, it was a "非,不,無-event".
Mr Lowe 否定するd the 航空機 was showing 増加するing faults 予定 to its age, 主張するing it was "still 20 years ahead of anything else".
He 追加するd: "It is 現実に 成し遂げるing 同様に as it ever has. 基本的に, the airplane is very, very sound.
"It could carry on 飛行機で行くing for a long time to come and I certainly have no problem with 飛行機で行くing on it."
David Learmount, 操作/手術s and safety editor of Flight International magazine, said: "The rudders are made at Toulouse and now everyone will have to look at ways of 強化するing them."
He went on: "Concorde is an enormously high-profile 計画(する), so anything that happens to it is big news. But really, all that happened in this 最新の 出来事/事件 was that a bit of the 底(に届く) 4半期/4分の1 of the rudder was lost.
"Operationally, the loss had no 影響 on the 計画(する). I understand the 操縦するs felt a little 'pop' as they 加速するd, but thought little of it as there was no 明らかな fault.
"They then noticed more sounds as they decelerated at the end of the flight. Although BA will want to get the rudder 状況/情勢 sorted out, rudder design for Concorde can 対処する with problems of this 肉親,親類d and the 航空機 is 完全に controllable during such 出来事/事件s."
This was the fourth 出来事/事件 to 影響する/感情 Concorde over the past six weeks.
A New York-bound BA Concorde was 軍隊d to turn 支援する to London after an engine had to be shut 負かす/撃墜する on November 3.
A 警告 light (機の)カム on in the 操縦室 示すing a problem with one of the four engines. The engine was shut 負かす/撃墜する by the 乗組員 and the 計画(する), with 82 乗客s on board, landed 安全に at Heathrow.
On October 30, a BA Concorde 飛行機で行くing from New York to London 苦しむd three tiny 割れ目s on the outer 層s of one of the cabi n windows.
This 原因(となる)d the 計画(する) to slow わずかに - although still 飛行機で行くing at supersonic 速度(を上げる) - with the 航空機 arriving 40 minutes late in London.
"There was no 緊急 上陸 necessary in the engine 出来事/事件 and the 乗客s were in no danger," said a BA spokeswoman.
In another 出来事/事件 in November, engine 失敗 軍隊d an 空気/公表する フラン Concorde to descend thousands of feet, 原因(となる)ing panic の中で the 乗客s on board.
BA and 空気/公表する フラン Concordes returned to 乗客 services on November 7 last year に引き続いて the 衝突,墜落 of an 空気/公表する フラン Concorde 近づく Paris in July 2000 in an 事故 which (人命などを)奪う,主張するd 113 lives.
