劇の 後退 for Blair and Bush on road to war

by DAVID HUGHES, Daily Mail

THE march に向かって 軍の 活動/戦闘 against Saddam Hussein 攻撃する,衝突する 批判的な 障害物s yesterday.

Tony Blair and George Bush are 決定するd to 行為/法令/行動する and the first strikes are probably only two weeks away, but their war 計画(する)s 苦しむd a 一連の 待ち伏せ/迎撃するs.

The biggest blow (機の)カム from Turkey, which bluntly told the U.S. that its 軍隊/機動隊s could not use bases and ports in the country to 開始する,打ち上げる a northern 前線 on Iraq.

That put a question- 示す over the 同盟(する)s' 計画(する)s to divide Iraqi 軍隊s by 同時に attacking from the north and the south.

In other 損失ing 後退s during a 決定的な 週末:

? Saddam Hussein played the 宣伝 game by destroying some ミサイルs and 開始 会談 on the 処分 of 化学製品 and 生物学の 武器s.

? フラン 主張するd it would 拒否権 any second UN 決意/決議 which would be 決定的な to 安全な・保証するing public support for a war.

? And Pakistan, a member of the UN 安全 会議, signalled it might not support the 決意/決議, while Russia and 中国 again 勧めるd greater 成果/努力s for a 平和的な 解答.

At home there was bad news for Mr Blair, with a 投票 showing that only a third of 投票者s 支援する his 姿勢 on Iraq - and even の中で 労働 支持者s his 支援 is only 49 per cent.

But as he 熟視する/熟考するd 戦う/戦い the 総理大臣 宣言するd his Christian 良心 was (疑いを)晴らす. 'I would never go into war if I

thought it was morally wrong,' he said. Welsh 長官 Peter Hain gave a (疑いを)晴らす signal that if the 安全 会議 封鎖するs a second 決意/決議 authorising war, Britain and America would go ahead anyway.

He said that in the 直面する of 'a gratuitous 拒否権', the worst thing would be 'to 支援する off 完全に'.

The Turkish move to 封鎖する 計画(する)s for 62,000 U.S. 軍隊/機動隊s to use its bases (機の)カム にもかかわらず an American 約束 of up to £20billion in 援助(する).

軍隊s based in Turkey woul d 安全な・保証する oilfields in northern Iraq and keep the peace between Kurdish 派閥s, and between Kurdish and Turkish 軍隊/機動隊s.

The 米国防総省 says it can draw up 代案/選択肢 計画(する)s for a war without using Turkey as a 開始する,打ち上げる pad, but such a (選挙などの)運動をする would be slower, more 高くつく/犠牲の大きい and far more risky.

Time is now 危険に short, with daytime 気温s in Iraq starting to rise に向かって a level that would make ground fighting difficult.

Ships carrying U.S. 戦車/タンクs have been waiting off Turkey's coast for (軍隊などの)展開,配備 and hundreds of トラックで運ぶs of 器具/備品 are ready to 荷を降ろす at the Turkish port of Iskenderun.

Iraq's move to destroy some of its ミサイルs is already 強化するing 対立 to a second 決意/決議 許可/制裁ing war at the UN 安全 会議. The French 大打撃を与えるd home a new 警告 that they will 封鎖する any such move.

外務大臣 Dominique de Villepin said it was up to the

武器s 視察官s to とじ込み/提出する a 報告(する)/憶測 説 they could not work any more.

'Are we in such a 状況/情勢? No. Do we need a second 決意/決議? No. Are we going to …に反対する a second 決意/決議? Yes, as are the ロシアのs and many other countries.'

He said フラン would not be 押し進めるd into に引き続いて America's schedule for war. 'You do not make war on a 時刻表/予定表,' he 追加するd.

Mr de Villepin 概算の that 90 per cent of countries around the globe and 80 per cent of the European public 支援するd フラン's 姿勢.

But it is regarded in Washington as 深く,強烈に 冷笑的な. As Iraq's biggest Western 貿易(する)ing partner, Paris has much to 伸び(る) from 妨害するing 活動/戦闘.

There were also strong hints from Pakistan that it might not 支援する a second 決意/決議.

Having helped the 中央情報局 逮捕(する) September 11 操る Khalid (イスラム圏での)首長 Mohammed at the 週末, Pakistan may argue it has done enough to support the U. S. without having to

支援する it on the 安全 会議.

In Iraq UN 視察官s 監督するd the d estruction of a その上の six al-Samoud 2 ミサイルs, に引き続いて the 取り去る/解体するing of four on Saturday, 同様に as 配置する/処分する/したい気持ちにさせるing of 大砲 爆撃するs filled with 情熱 gas.

Saddam's 協定 to give up his 兵器庫 of al-Samouds has been 解任するd in London and Washington as a 策略 to 分裂(する) the UN and 回避する war. But 武器s 視察官 Demetrius Perricos called it ' a 固める/コンクリート 活動/戦闘'.

会談 were under way on another 重要な 問題/発行する, 伴う/関わるing anthrax and VX 神経 gas 蓄える/店s which Iraq (人命などを)奪う,主張するd to have destroyed, he said.

The Iraqis were quick to take advantage of the 状況/情勢, 説 they would stop destroying banned ミサイルs if the U.S. signals it will attack.

The Arab world was in 混乱 over Iraq last night after a 列/漕ぐ/騒動 between Libya and Saudi Arabia descended into 暴力/激しさ.

Angry (人が)群がるs tried to 嵐/襲撃する the Saudi 大使館 in the Libyan 資本/首都, Tripoli, after a war of words between the two nations at an Arab 首脳会議 on how to 回避する a war which many Arabs 恐れる could wreak 大混乱 throughout the 地域.
