Red Ed no more: Ed Milliband

Britain's most powerful union barons are to be stripped of their stranglehold over the 労働 Party.

In a move designed to shake off his 'Red Ed' tag, Ed Miliband will stop them dictating 労働 政策s ? and the leadership.

The three men 直面するing 抑制(する)s are Len McCluskey, general 長官 of 部隊, Paul Kenny, who leads the GMB, and Unison's Dave Prentis.

Ironically, the unions played a 重要な 役割 in 確実にするing Mr Miliband 敗北・負かすd his brother David in last year's 労働 leadership contest.

They all supported Ed, helping him to 追いつく David, who had the 支援 of MPs and 行動主義者s.

If 提案するd changes in the 投票(する)ing 支配するs had been in place when Mr Miliband won last year, he would almost certainly have lost.

The main alteration would see unions lose their 50 per cent of 投票(する)ing 権利s at the Party's 年次の 会議/協議会.

It could 落ちる to as low as 33 per cent, with extra 投票(する)s given to ordinary 労働 支持者s.

Other 改革(する)s are 存在 considered in the leadership contest which could 軍隊 unions to 放棄する their one third 株 of the 投票(する). But union leaders say they will resist the 改革(する)s.

'We 供給する the 本体,大部分/ばら積みの of the 労働 Party's 財政/金融s and are する権利を与えるd to a fair say in its 事件/事情/状勢s,' said a 上級の unionofficial. 'Ed Miliband should remember who put him where he is.'

Mr Miliband was reminded of the struggle he 直面するs to 主張する his 当局 over the unions when his choice for 労働 general 長官 was 拒絶するd last week.

He had 勧めるd the Party's 判決,裁定 国家の (n)役員/(a)執行力のある 委員会 to 選ぶ 労働 現体制支持者/忠臣 Chris Lennie, the party's long- serving 副 general 長官.

But the NEC snubbed Mr Miliband and 投票(する)d 17-14 in favour of Iain McNicol, the GMB's political officer.
